A pet owner has told of the horrifying moment she fought off an enormous eagle which swooped down and attacked her little dog.
Terrified Marika Smith, 36, said she was twice forced to kick the swooping bird of prey in the chest as it dive-bombed to snatch her dog, named ‘Tiny’, in Shoeburyness, Essex.
The expectant mother – is who five months pregnant – managed to fight off the bird – with the help of a passerby it was fended off after it tried to pounce on her pooch a second time.

Tiny, a Jack Russel-Pug cross, was left bloodied and shaken with cuts to his eye and had to be treated by local vets following the incident on Monday morning.
Ms Smith says she was out for a walk close to a nearby primary school when she looked up and saw an ‘enormous bird’ heading towards her dog.
She said: ‘I was just walking Tiny this morning when she got attacked by the biggest bird I’ve seen in my life, I’m 99 per cent sure it was an eagle.
‘It got hold of her and I had to kick it in the chest so many times for it to let go with her and then it attacked again’.

‘It landed on my dog and she was screaming and crying.
‘I was trying to get it off my dog and it took a few seconds, but those seconds felt like a life time.
A woman who had been driving by, pulled over to help Ms Smith when the eagle swooped a second time.
She said: ‘The bird then came back and attacked my dog again.
‘I tried to kick it away and my dog was covered in blood.’
The expectant mum said the eagle almost blinded her pet who was left with injuries to the eyes.

She said: ‘The woman who stopped also said it looked like an eagle.
‘It has a blue ring around one if its legs, and a big beak, claws and its wings were bigger than me.
‘[Tiny’s] fine now but was very distressed and slept for most of the day.
‘I am 20 weeks pregnant and it wasn’t very nice what happened.’
The adorable pet was targeted by the bird on Monday morning, prompting Ms Smith to quickly share a Facebook post warning other dog owners.
She wrote: ‘I was just near Garrison in Shoeburyness so please be very careful walking your dog as I wouldn’t want anyone experiencing this awful situation!!
‘Thank you so much to the lovely couple that stopped in their car and took me straight to the vets.’
