Paedophile Rolf Harris has been seen for the first time in public since he was caught waving at children outside a primary school.

The disgraced entertainer, 89, was spotted looking dishevelled, clutching the arm of his female carer as they walked in Maidenhead, Berkshire yesterday morning before they got in a car and drove off.

He told reporters: ‘I’ve got diabetes. I’ve suffered from it for 25 years,’ before he was whisked away to his house in nearby Bray.

Yesterday was the first time Harris has been seen in public since he was banished from the grounds of a local primary school where he spoke to a wood sculptor and waved at young pupils.

His family allegedly put him under ‘house arrest’ after the ‘disastrous’ incident, which could have seen him back behind bars.

Yesterday neighbours in Berkshire said the school incident has had a negative impact on his health.

One said: ‘It’s badly affected him; he’s in poor health and has declined rapidly. He doesn’t come out any more and when he does it’s only ever with his carer.’

Harris’s wife Alwen, 87, is also battling Alzheimer’s disease, despite his claims she is ‘doing well’.

Other neighbours claimed the sex offender rarely leaves his home and employs at least five female members of staff to care for him and his wife.

Today he wore a red fleece and dirty blue jeans with holes as he talked to reporters in the public car park.

Harris was convicted of 12 indecent assaults at London’s Southwark Crown Court in June 2014, one on an eight-year-old autograph hunter, two on girls in their early teens, and a catalogue of abuse against his daughter’s friend over 16 years.

He was jailed for five years and nine months, but released from HMP Stafford in May 2017 after serving less than half the sentence.

During his time behind bars he was hospitalised after his condition spiralled out of control.

He last hit headlines for the incident outside Oldfield Primary School in Maidenhead in February, when headteacher Richard Jarrett ordered him to leave the school grounds.

Sentencing Council guidelines state that a breach of licence by a sex offender carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a minimum of six months in custody or a fine.

Thames Valley Police said: ‘A report was made that a man was on the site of the school.

‘An officer attended the scene but no offence was committed. No arrests were made and advice has been given to the man involved.’

A source close to his family said at the time they were ‘flabbergasted’ he would do such a thing so soon after his release.
