This is the shocking moment a thug wrestles a 79-year-old woman to the ground and drags her along the street, before callously ripping the handbag from her grasp.

CCTV shows the mugger, with his hood up, race over to the elderly woman in a residential street, in Kettering, Northamptonshire.

The bully gets hold of her handbag and and attempts to wrench it from her grasp, sending her sprawling.

He eventually wrestles it from her and sprints away with his ill-gotten gains, as the 79-year-old is left on the floor, nursing a broken arm.

Police have released the CCTV footage of the attack in an attempt to find the perpetrator.

The incident took place on Sunday September 8, between 3.20pm and 3.50pm, on St Theresa’s Close.

Detective Constable Paul Bates said: ‘Many people will be shocked by the CCTV footage we have released today and rightly so.

‘This lady, like everyone else, should be able to go about her business and feel safe.

‘Her attacker has taken that feeling of safety away from her and it is imperative that he is identified and brought to justice.’

Two 31-year-old men have been arrested in connection with this offence.

They have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
