Love Island US host Arielle Vandenberg called Caroline Flack‘s death ‘the most tragic thing’ as she reacted to the news over the weekend.

The reality TV figure appeared somber as she was asked about the news that Flack, the presenter for the original UK Love Island, took her own life on Saturday.

‘It’s the most tragic thing I’ve ever heard. Seriously,’ Vandenberg told photographers while out in Los Angeles shortly after the news broke.

Flack, 40, was discovered dead on Saturday, shortly after being told that authorities were going ahead and putting her on trial for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend.

The star was accused of hitting partner Lewis Burton with a lamp in December. Lewis did not want to move ahead with charges, however the Crown Prosecution Service decided to take the case to trial regardless.

Flack stepped down from hosting the current Winter season of Love Island after deciding that her personal troubles playing out in the media were too much of a distraction.

She had hosted the UK show since its inception in 2015 and was hugely popular with viewers.

Arielle politely declined saying anything more when asked about the situation.

She later took to social media to send her condolences, writing: ‘Today is such a sad day and my heart is broken.’

‘My heart goes out to Caroline Flack and her family and friends. Caroline, I’ll never forget the first message you sent me, welcoming me with such open arms into the Love Island world. I was star struck! I’ll never forget how you made me feel.’

She continued: ‘When I was nervous to do my first episode, you encouraged me with such kind words. You made me feel comfortable.’

Arielle also revealed that she and the UK host had planned to catch up in the near future.

‘I can’t stop looking over out texts back-and-forth about needing to get together for dinner. “A slo-Mo dinner”.’

She ended with: ‘Thank you for being such a positive, encouraging, kind human. You are so loved! Rest In Peace sweet girl.’

Arielle later shared a happy smiling photo of Caroline and added two a love heart emoji.

The Love Island UK host took her own life on Saturday, after she was told the CPS would be going ahead with her assault case.

Police were seen outside her two-bedroom home in December, where she lived with her partner Lewis at the time, after reports emerged that a man had been attacked.

And while Lewis did not support the prosecution, the CPS still went ahead.

Caroline is the third person who has appeared on the controversial ITV2 dating show to take their own life.

Sophie Gradon, 32, killed herself in June 2018 while Mike Thalassitis, 26, was found dead in March 2019.

The future of the show now hangs in the balance as producers have been accused of not providing enough support to its stars.
