    Man, 36, is left with horror injuries after getting impaled on a work site in North Sydney

    • A man, 36, reportedly fell three metres and impaled his shoulder on a reo bar 
    • He was trapped for an hour before emergency workers managed to free him  
    • Part of the bar was still in his shoulder when he was transported to hospital 

    A 36-year-old man has been left with horrific injuries after becoming impaled on a worksite in North Sydney. 

    He reportedly fell backwards and plunged three metres before landing on a steel reinforcement bar at a worksite on Childs Circuit in Belrose at 1:15pm on Wednesday.

    The reinforcement bar, also know as a reo bar, impaled his shoulder and trapped him for an hour before emergency workers could release him.

    Emergency workers partially cut out the bar to free him. Pictures from the scene show part of the bar was still embedded in his shoulder when he was transported. 

    Firefighters, paramedics, police and Careflight teams were all on the scene. 

    Paramedics treated him for ‘a serious shoulder wound’ at the scene before Careflight transported him to the Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.

    Inspector Antony Clarke said: ‘Incidents at worksites are extremely challenging and it shows just how quickly any situation can change.

    ‘Along with other emergency services we were able to provide ongoing care and safely release the patient.’

    ‘Our crews along with the Careflight team provided the best possible treatment before transporting our patient to hospital.’
