Arsenal ‘lead race to land Napoli hitman Arkadiusz Milik’ on the cheap

Arsenal ‘lead race to land Napoli hitman Arkadiusz Milik’ on the cheap with Serie A side ready to sell to Gunners below £45m asking price to avoid him going to rivals Juventus

    • Arsenal are leading the race to sign Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik this summer
    • A number of Premier League clubs have been linked with the 26-year-old
    • Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is desperate to avoid strengthening rivals
    • The Naples chief would be preprared to accept an offer below £45million

Arsenal are at the front of the queue to sign Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik this summer according to La Repubblica.

A number of Premier League clubs have been linked with the 26-year-old but the Gunners are reportedly winning the race.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is desperate to avoid strengthening rivals Juventus who are also interested and would be willing to offer a discount price.

The Naples chief would be preprared to accept an offer below their £45million asking price.

Milik, who is a Poland internernational, is currently refusing to extend his current contract which is due to expire in 2021.

The Napoli forward has worked closely with Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp during his time at Ajax and might be tempted to follow his former mentors footsteps in north London.

‘When I joined the club [Ajax] we had a good relationship because I wanted to spend time after training working on my technique,’ Milik said back in 2016 of his relationship with Bergkamp according to The Daily Star

‘We had good contact between us. We text each other and I send him my greetings from here.

‘Dennis is a special person, a player who had a great career and you can constantly learn from him. I try to take as much as possible from him.’

Milik could replace Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng who is yet to extend his current contract which expires next summer.

Ex-Arsenal forward Jeremie Aliadiere recently insisted The Gunners should sell Aubameyang to avoid the repeat of the saga which saw them lose Aaron Ramsey to Juventus for nothing.

‘They’ve got to sell him, 100 per cent,’ Aliadiere told Goal. ‘Arsenal can’t keep losing players on a free. To be honest, I still can’t believe we’ve again got a top player, our captain, going into the summer only having one year left on his contract.

‘For me, it has to be sorted when he gets to two years. Last summer he should have signed a deal or been sold. Because when you get down to one year left, in a player’s mind there is a difference.

‘If I was Aubameyang and I knew I only had one year left, I would sacrifice one year of my career to go on a free and get paid a ridiculous amount of money and have all the clubs in the world chasing me. Who wouldn’t?’
