Cameron Diaz, 47, shares first ever TikTok as the new mom takes part in ‘wine challenge’

Cameron Diaz, 47, shares first ever TikTok as the new mom takes part in ‘wine challenge’

On Wednesday, Cameron Diaz promoted her new wine brand while speaking on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

And on Thursday, the 47-year-old put her money where her mouth is, by drinking a sample of her Avaline wine as part of the ‘wine challenge’.

Diaz chronicled her attempt at the online trend in her first ever TikTok video.

In the short video, the There’s Something About Mary star sat behind her business partner Katherine Power, who held the base of a half-filled wine glass between her teeth.

As the Enya track Only Time played, the entrepreneur tipped her head back, allowing her company’s co-founder to drink from the tilted glass.

There was nearly a mishap at the end of the challenge, however the Being John Malkovich actress was able to steady the glass with her hand, before bursting out laughing.

Just seven months after the birth of her first child, Cameron is getting into the wine business.

The actress, whose daughter Raddix was born in early January, launched her wine Avaline earlier this month with Power and gave an update on how she’s balancing it all on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Diaz, who shares Raddix with her husband of five years, Benji Madden, opened up about the challenges of motherhood, raising a child in quarantine and Avaline, which launched with two summer-friendly wines, a Spanish white and a French rosé.

The actress gave birth to Raddix a few months before COVID-19 started to spread and forced many to stay at home, as she joked about her baby previously being an ‘excuse’ to stay at home.

‘Before, my baby was an excuse to stay home, you know,’ Diaz said with a laugh. ‘Now I don’t have to make that excuse it’s just what it is, and I get to be with her,’ she said.

The Holiday star added that ‘the best part’ of staying ‘within our little bubble’ for lockdown is her husband Benji Madden, ‘gets to be home, he works from home and so he gets to be with her as much as I do.’

She added they both ‘have a lot of gratitude’ for the time they get to spend with their daughter now during COVID-19, before speaking about her wine brand.

Diaz mentioned that Meyers pronounced the name of the wine wrong, pointing out they even have the phonetic spelling on the bottle.

Meyers joked that there were bottles of the wine sent to his house, but ‘there was no note so we just drank it,’ before revealing he still had some of the French rosé left, adding ‘it’s delicious.’

Meyers added he will, ‘out of necessity’ just drink from the bottle, with Diaz adding, ‘you are drinking it the best way, straight out of the fridge, icy cold.’

After they had a few drinks, Meyers asked how the idea came about to start a wine called Avaline.

‘My partner, Katherine power, ‘who is an entrepreneur and a friend of mine, who I met through my sister-in-law Nicole Richie, and they have been best friends forever,’ Diaz began.

She added that every name they came up with has already been claimed as a vineyard, ‘because there are so many wines.’

‘So we, you know, we went to baby naming sites and Avaline just looked beautiful, we thought, as written, and then the meaning, which is sensitive, humble and lively, which it really felt like embodied what we wanted for our brand to sort of, you know, be so we ended up with Avaline,’ she added.

Meyers added that the wine is made with organic grapes, which Diaz realized was important to her after educating herself about the wine-making process.

‘Because we never – you know, look, I have drank wine my entire life, and my assumption, is that it was just fermented grapes, why wouldn’t it be, and then we learned sort of what possibly could be put into wine, and we realized that we wanted to drink only wines that didn’t have those things in it,’ Diaz said.

She added the organic grapes were, ‘a huge part’ of branding Avaline as a ‘clean wine, ‘because it all starts in the vineyard for us because organic farming is just cleaner by nature than commercial farming you know, there is not the synthetic pesticides, it’s kinder to the land and to the environment and to the waterways.’

‘And so – and then we realized that we only really consume, you know, we make such an effort to consume organic groceries, to put clean skin products on our, you know, bodies, and to wear organic cotton, all these things that we never really questioned our wine and when we realized that it wasn’t a given that our wines were organic, we went ahead and sort of went that — we sort of put the pillar of our wine was that it had to have organic grapes,’ Diaz added.

She said it definitely ‘made the process more difficult’ and that lead them to Europe where more land is ‘being farmed organically.’

‘And in making wine in the way that we were looking for wine to be made, which was with the least amount of intervention that could be created as a large-scale wine so we found these winemakers who were making the wine we wanted to drink, making it the way we — or to the standards that we had for it, and then we had, you know, the farming practices were right where we wanted, you know, wanted it to be,’ she added.
