Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star Alan Ruck revives iconic character Cameron Frye for new commercial

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star Alan Ruck revives iconic character Cameron Frye for new commercial

He played the downcast sidekick to an adventurous teenager in the cult classic film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

But Alan Ruck means business as a grown up version of his character Cameron Frye in a new commercial for Liftmaster.

The 1986 flick followed Ruck and his best friend Ferris (played by Matthew Broderick) on the ultimate ditch day through the streets of downtown Chicago, all of which began in Cameron’s father’s garage.

Boss: Alan Ruck means business as a grown up version of his character Cameron Frye in a new commercial for Liftmaster

Liftmaster’s ad plays on the notion that modern technology could change the outcome of an interesting day for a pair of Ferris and Cameron look-alike’s.

Yello’s song ‘Oh Yeah’ plays in the background as the garage door opens to reveal a cherry red 1966 Jaguar E-Type Roadster in mint condition, similar to the classic car featured in the film.

‘My father spent three years restoring this car. It is his love, it is his passion,’ the Cameron character said.

Ferris’ character doesn’t miss a beat before interrupting with: ‘It is his fault he didn’t lock the garage.’

Ruck quickly puts an end to the discussion as he watches the boys from his phone in an office.

‘Don’t even think about it,’ he tells the kids through a speaker which is transmitted through the garage via built-in camera.

‘Been there, done that,’ Ruck chuckled.

In a release from the company, Alan noted how difficult it would be for the boys to embark on similar Ferris Bueller’s Day Off antics in a modern day setting.

‘Smart home technology wasn’t available in 1985 when we made the movie, so if they remade Bueller today the kids would have a lot of trouble circumventing LiftMaster’s Secure View, he said.

‘When I stepped into the Frye Family garage that LiftMaster recreated from the movie, I had flashbacks! I think LiftMaster picked the perfect iconic garage scene to demonstrate how Secure View and smart access solutions can provide peace-of-mind for homeowners.’
