Leeds pull out of of £18m deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Cuisance after his medical highlighted an injury problem

    • The France U20 international playmaker had been in Leeds to finalise a deal
    • The Yorkshire club called a halt to proceedings on Thursday after medical tests
    • Leeds decided it would be best to cancel the transfer and pursue other targets

Leeds United are revising their recruitment plan after an £18million move for Bayern Munich’s Michael Cuisance collapsed on Thursday night over his medical.

The 21-year-old midfielder had travelled over from Germany after the clubs agreed a fee on Tuesday, one that included a buy-back clause for the European champions.

Bayern’s president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had even gone so far as to wish Cuisance well for the future.

Leeds’ move for Michael Cuisance fell through after the Bayern midfielder failed a medical

However, Leeds called a halt to proceedings on Thursday after medical tests raised concerns about a previous injury.

It is understood it would have taken some time for Cuisance to recover and get up to the fitness required for Marcelo Bielsa’s standards. Leeds ultimately decided it would be best to cancel the transfer and pursue other targets. Cuisance was due to fly back to Germany on Thursday evening.

Leeds have been working hard to add quality to their squad and believed they had unearthed a gem in the France U20 international playmaker.

They had previously seen a deal for Udinese’s Rodrigo de Paul flounder over the Italians’ asking price and will now take stock of their next move.

Bielsa had been wary of commenting about Cuisance’s arrival earlier in the day at Leeds’ pre-match press conference for Saturday’s clash with Manchester City, preferring to wait until a deal was confirmed.

Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell is a player they admire but is a different type to Cuisance. They also remain intent on adding a winger with Leicester City’s Demarai Gray high on their wishlist along with Utrecht’s Gyrano Kerk.

Hopes of signing Manchester United’s Dan James look forlorn with the Wales international wanting to stay and fight for his place.
