    Morayfield Kmart shut down as police called to busy shopping centre

    Police scramble to ‘serious’ incident at a busy shopping centre as Kmart is shut and customers are put on alert

    • Morayfield Shopping Centre, in Queensland, partially closed on Friday
    • Police were called to the scene and centre’s south car park closed to the public
    • Surrounding streets William Berry Drive and Leda Boulevard also cordoned off

    Part of a shopping centre north of Brisbane has been shut down and police called to the scene.  

    An emergency zone was declared at Morayfield Shopping Centre, in the Moreton Bay region, on Friday.

    Courier Mail reported officers have been negotiating with a man for seven hours. 

    Doors to the lower and upper south carparks that lead to Coles and Kmart have been closed.

    Surrounding streets William Berry Drive and Leda Boulevard have also been cordoned off.

    ‘Specialist police are on scene and members of the community are asked to avoid the area as they respond,’ police said. 

    The store operator said in a Facebook post businesses throughout the rest of the centre were still operating as usual. 

    ‘All other car parks and all stores are open as usual.

    ‘We will update this post when the southern car parks have reopened.   

    ‘Thank you for your patience.’
