It now appears that Bale was a viable option for United, with ESPN reporting that the club told the now-Tottenham star that if a move for Sancho fell through he would be high on their list of back-up options.

United, meanwhile, still only have Donny van de Beek through the door as they desperately try to secure improvements to their squad before the deadline.

Bale, meanwhile, is settling back into life at Tottenham and has been pictured in training this week as he nears a return to fitness.
