    Luxury hotels across the US, Mexico and Caribbean are now offering ‘school-cation’ packages that offer poolside cabana classrooms, in-person tutors, and cultural art classes to entice guests amid the pandemic.

    In Pittsburgh the Kimpton Hotel is offering a virtual learning package that includes an on-site Chief Virtual Officer to help kids set up their virtual learning platforms, supply snacks and school supplies.

    The Kimpton Field Trip package also allows parents to purchase a second room for extra space for an additional $99, with one night stays in suites starting around $300.

    The new ‘school-cation’ trend is offering new ways to help kids with their schooling through tutoring, entertainment for ‘recess’, and pool swims or fly-fishing as an option for gym.

    However, some educators warn that learning in a place designed for leisure may not be a good idea.

    ‘A change of scenery can be valuable for some learners, but a distraction for others,’ Sarah Brown Wessling, a high school English teacher in Johnston, Iowa said to the Wall Street Journal.

    ‘You need to determine your child’s learning style and whether it will actually benefit him/her to do this,’ she added.

    Auberge Resorts, which has 19 properties, is offering in-person and virtual tutoring starting at $195 per 50 minutes in partnership with New York private tutoring service Advantage Testing.

    Programs will be customized according to location and the child’s curriculum such as offering Spanish classes at the Chileno Bay Resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico or an excursion for kids to learn about mining at the Lodge at Blue Sky in Park City, Utah.

    Parents will be able to enjoy an in-room office set up that features whiteboards and charging station.

    The all-inclusive rate runs at $27,000 for 15 nights. For 20 nights, which goes for $36,000, at one of the resort’s stand-alone villas families can enjoy kitchens, private pools, a butler, private chef and on-demand workspaces with computers and office supplies.

    Some resorts offer exciting physical education ‘electives’ including fly-fishing such as Montage International’s resort in Deer Valley, Utah. At the Utah resort a King-sized bedroom starts around $700 a night.

    Montage International is offering an all-day monitored study hall, gym electives and virtual tutoring with instructors from the Princeton Review at its locations in Utah, Laguna Beach, California; Los Cabos, Mexico; and Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina.

    Guests also can benefit from the brand’s partnership with One Medical that offers guests a month-long membership with round-the-clock health service.

    Families seeking to venture out into more tropical waters can stay at the Eden Roc Cap Cana resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

    The resort offers in-suite classrooms with a desk, notebooks, printers and computers for families staying a minimum of 15 nights. A room starts at about $500 a night.

    Three bilingual ‘children concierges’ certified in working with children will help with homework and conduct extracurriculars including Merengue dance lessons.
