Arsenal £350,000-a-week misfit Mesut Ozil launches new footwear range with all profits being donated to help children… just days after he offered to pay Gunnersaurus’ wages

    • Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has launched a new charity footwear range
    • All profit raised from sales will help children affected by coronavirus in Italy
    • Earlier this week the German international offered to pay Gunnersaurus’ wages
    • The out-of-favour midfielder is well known for his several charitable efforts

Mesut Ozil has continued his charitable efforts after offering to pay Gunnersaurus’ wages following the mascot’s sacking earlier this week.

The out-of-favour Arsenal midfielder, who earns £350,000-a-week, stepped in when it emerged Gunnersaurs had been let go as part of a cost-cutting process on Monday.

Ozil’s latest charity project has seen him launch new footwear range ‘The Cage’ with all profits going towards helping children affected by coronavirus in Italy.

The German international shared a photo of himself and Hide and Jack brand manager Alberto Franceschi on Instagram alongside the caption: ”The Cage’ is now available for preorder on the @hideandjack website.

‘It was designed to celebrate my childhood and personal story. Together with @albertofranceschi all the profits will be donated to help children affected by the Covid-19 crisis in Italy in order to have access to digital education.’

The release of ‘The Cage’ comes days after Ozil tweeted his offer to save Gunnersaurus.

He tweeted on Tuesday: ‘I was so sad that Jerry Quy aka our famous and loyal mascot and integral part of our club was made redundant after 27 years.

‘As such, I’m offering to reimburse Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player so Jerry can continue his job that he loves so much.’

Ozil has regularly demonstrated his generosity in the past. Last season he welcomed some disabled supporters to the Emirates stadium to watch Arsenal’s 3-2 win against Everton, posing for pictures with them after the game.

He also works with the children’s charity Ray of Sunshine, through which he once welcomed an ardent eight-year-old Gunners fan with cerebral palsy and a lung condition into his home.

Arsenal want to terminate Ozil’s contract and he was left out of their Europa League squad

Last week he was announced as an ambassador for Unitas who provide safe spaces for young people in North London. Writing on Instagram, Ozil said: ‘Always happy to assist in North London, my home. Proud to be part of the Unitas Youth Zone team and to give young people safe and inspiring places to go in their leisure time.’

Ozil came under scrutiny after rejecting a 12.5 per cent pay cut in April and with Arsenal are looking to terminate the contract of the high-earning midfielder.

The 31-year-old is not part of Mikel Arteta’s plans and has not been included in the club’s 25-man Europa League squad.
