‘It takes a very special person to be a great trainer’: Mike Tyson hails Roy Jones Jr as boxing legends feature in epic advert for mouth-watering comeback showdown next month

    • The pair will clash in a mouth-watering showdown in California on November 28

Mike Tyson has built up the excitement for his highly anticipated comeback fight against Roy Jones Jr next month with an epic promotional trailer.

The pair will clash in a mouth-watering exhibition bout in California on November 28 and the former undisputed heavyweight champion has been in training since March.

The 54-year-old has not fought since retiring in 2005 while Jones Jr was last in the ring in 2018. Tyson shared an advert, made by Triller, on Instagram as the build up to their showdown continues.

The clip features British boxer Chris Eubank Jr, who has been training Jones in America in preparation for the fight.

Talking up the 51-year-old’s training skills, Eubank says: ‘It’s a crazy atmosphere, but crazy is what breeds excellence in this sport.

‘And that’s what Roy is, he’s no ordinary trainer, and he is the best trainer I’ve ever had.’

Former IBF super-lightweight champion Zab Judah also features and credits Jones Jr then helping him become a ‘champion’.

Tyson then adds his praise for Jones: ‘All great fighters can’t be great trainers, it takes a very special person to be a great trainer.’

The niceties will come to an end for the fight next month and both boxers are shown being put through their paces.

Tyson has shared several videos of him preparing in the gym with the boxer going through an incredible transformation in the last few months.

There are some within the sport who are backing the former champion to do some damage in the ring.

Tyson praised Jones Jr as a special boxer and trainer but there will be no love lost next month

One such commentator is Danny Williams – who shocked Tyson in 2004.

‘I think Roy is going to get seriously hurt. He is a natural middleweight,’ Williams told The Sun in September.

Jones confirmed there would be no love lost between the pair when he spoke to Sky Sports last month but admitted Tyson will pose a huge threat.

‘When it comes time to fight, we’re going to fight. If it comes down to bite, we’re going to bite. Whatever has to happen, is going to happen, that’s just what it is,’ Jones said.

‘He’s still Mike Tyson, he’s still one of the strongest, most explosive people who ever touched a boxing ring. If anything, I made a mistake going in with him. He’s the bigger guy, he’s the explosive guy.’
