Edinson Cavani opens up on his relationship with Neymar after pair’s turbulent time together at PSG

‘We are very different, we didn’t share many things and we think differently’: Edinson Cavani opens up on his relationship with Neymar after pair’s turbulent time together at PSG ahead of Man United’s Champions League clash in Paris

    • Edinson Cavani joined Manchester United this summer after seven years at PSG
    • The striker famously didn’t see eye-to-eye with Brazilian star Neymar in Paris
    • They had a famous spat after a row over who should take a penalty against Lyon
    • Cavani has spoken out about his relationship with Neymar after leaving the club

Edinson Cavani has spoken about his relationship with Neymar after the pair’s turbulent time together at Paris Saint-Germain.

During his time in Paris, Cavani became the club’s all-time leading goalscoring and formed a deadly attacking trio with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Cavani joined Manchester United on a free transfer on deadline day and could be set to face his former team in the Champions League on October 20.

Edinson Cavani and Neymar didn’t always see eye-to-eye during their together at PSG

The 33-year-old argued with Neymar on the field in 2017 over who should take a penalty for PSG and the pair’s relationship was strenuous ever since.

Cavani admitted he is not friends with Neymar but said there was always mutual respect between himself and the Brazilian superstar.

He told ESPN as per Sport: ‘We are very different, we didn’t share many things and we think in different ways. That doesn’t stop you from getting along.

‘In the group we didn’t all have to be friends or brothers.

‘The important thing is to be friends on the pitch, protect each other, run for the other.’

Cavani added that the pair’s only spat came during a 2-0 win over Lyon back in 2017 over who should take a penalty.

The Uruaguyan striker was reported to be unhappy with the way the Brazilian star conducted himself during their spat.

Cavani would go on to take the penalty which he missed as he hit the crossbar.

He added: ‘Everything they said afterwards is not true. Ney is a good kid.’

He left the club this year after scoring 138 goals in 200 appearances from when he joined the club in 2013.

The 33-year-old will be hoping to put one over his former team after his new side Manchester United were drawn with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
