A home cook has shared her simple three-ingredient recipe to recreate Sizzler’s iconic cheese toast at home.

The 19-year-old, from Queensland, shared a TikTok video showing exactly how she made the Aussie classic using slices of white bread, parmesan cheese and butter.

The cheese toasts have been the star attraction of Sizzler in Australia for more than 35 years but diners will soon have to recreate the famous snack at home after the chain announced all of its restaurants will close its doors permanently in November.

To make the snack, she combined butter and parmesan cheese in a bowl to create a thick paste. Next, she spread a generous amount of paste on one side of the sliced bread.

Over a medium heat, she drizzled oil in a flat frying pan then placed the bread butter-side down.

She placed a lid over the pan so the bread can steam while toasting and she cooked it until the butter side is golden brown and cheese has melted.

To serve, she cut the slices in half into triangle shapes.

The iconic cheese toasts are typically served free with every meal at Sizzler restaurants.

‘The basic recipe for Sizzler Cheese Toast has not changed since it originated in the USA more than 40 years ago,’ the chain wrote on its website.

‘Thick sliced white bread is spread with a generous mix of parmesan cheese and margarine and is then toasted on a flat grill until golden brown on one side.

‘Cheese toast is a delicious blend of textures and flavours, with soft chewy bread on one side complimented by crisp toast on the other and, the subtle yeasted bread flavours contrasting with the sharp flavour of parmesan cheese.

‘It’s the best thing since sliced bread.’

The cheese toast comes just weeks after the chain announced all remaining restaurants in Australia will permanently shut its doors in November.

‘It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that after 35 years it is time to say goodbye. The difficult decision has been made to close all remaining Sizzler Australia restaurants this November,’ the chain wrote on its website.

‘We are so very grateful to our dedicated staff and we want to thank each and every one of our customers for supporting us and creating and sharing memories at Sizzler over the past 35 years.

‘Our restaurants will remain open until the last day of trade on November 15 2020, so there is still time to enjoy all your grill and salad bar favourites.

‘We hope to see you all for one last slice of Cheese Toast.’
