Sevilla star Jules Kounde admits move to Man City ‘would have been a good opportunity’

Sevilla star Jules Kounde admits move to Man City ‘would have been a good opportunity’ but claims he is ‘happy’ to remain in Spain… despite growing interest from Manchester United

    • Jules Kounde was a £50million target for Manchester City in the transfer window
    • The France Under 21 defender has admitted he would liked to play in England
    • However, the Sevilla star stated he was happy to stay at the club for now
    • Kounde enjoyed an excellent first season at Sevilla, winning the Europa League
    • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has added defender to his January Man Utd wishlist

Jules Kounde admits a potential move to Manchester City would have been a good opportunity, but reaffirmed he is happy to remain at Sevilla.

Before signing Ruben Dias from Benfica in a deal worth around £65million, City were keen on the Sevilla star, with reports suggesting the Spanish side turned down a £50million for the 21-year-old.

Kounde has since claimed we would have jumped at the chance to play in the English top flight but has no regrets over a move falling through and is happy to remain in LaLiga with Sevilla.

‘It is part of my progression,’ the France Under 21 defender told Canal Plus. ‘I give everything that is necessary and I work hard to make it (success) happen.

‘I was happy at the club, and I still am. It would have been a good opportunity (to move to England), but I am at Sevilla and I am very happy.’

Kounde only joined Sevilla in the summer of 2019 after arriving from Bordeaux for around £22million.

Since then he has broken into the first-team and was influential to the Spanish side’s march into the top four last term.

He was also key their successful Europa League run which saw them win the competition for a record sixth time after seeing off Inter Milan in the final.

He has spent the international break away with the France Under 21 team but senior recognition beckons for him as his reputation continues to rise across Europe.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has also become interested in the defender and may plot a January move.
