‘Second saddest day of my life’: Father of terminally ill bride who died just days after marrying the love of her life suffers another heartbreak

    • Tony Simrajh’s daughter Ashleigh Hale was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma
    • The 23-year-old died on September 8, just three days after getting married
    • Three weeks after her death, Mr Simrajh’s revealed his campervan was stolen
    • Mr Simrajh described the campervan theft as the ‘second saddest day of my life’

The heartbroken father who lost his daughter to cancer has been dealt another blow after his campervan was stolen.

Tony Simrajh’s daughter Ashleigh Hale, 23, was diagnosed with stage four melanoma and lost her battle to cancer on September 8 on the Gold Coast.

Weeks after tragically losing his beloved daughter, on September 27 Mr Simrajh reported that his campervan was stolen.

‘To the scum who stole my beautifully restored 1984 Hiace camper van that was my pride and joy I hope you rot in hell your bastards,’ he wrote on Facebook.

‘Get a f**king job and put the money, hard work and love into creating your own memories.’

Mr Simrajh described the theft as the ‘second saddest day of my life’ after spending almost $14,000 on refurbishing it, Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

He reported the incident to Victoria Police along with footage of the person involved and the tow truck company used, but police told Mr Simrajh that they were short on staff due to COVID-19 duties.

‘If they had acted then there’s a high chance my van would have been found,’ he said.

Mr Simrajh argued that there are now only a few cases of COVID-19 in Melbourne and the lockdowns made it more difficult to get police on the case.

Finally after three weeks of filing his complaint, police told Mr Simrajh that they had arrested a 33-year-old woman, who admitted to stealing the campervan.

They had told him the two men pulled the van apart and sold pieces for cash to people they didn’t know and to metal recyclers.

‘Police took way too long to act due to apparently ”resourcing issues” and now my beautiful camper that I had lovingly restored is gone forever.’

Mr Simrajh lost his daughter Ashleigh Hale just days after she married the love of her life, Jason Hale.

At just 23, Ms Hale was diagnosed with having stage four melanoma in 2019, more than a year after she was told the lump on her leg has was probably a wart.

After recently being told she had just days to live, she and partner Jason Hale said ‘I do’ in front of 50 of their closest family and friends in an emotional ceremony at Sea World Resort on the Gold Coast on September 5.

Her devastated husband confirmed his bride’s death in a heartbreaking tribute on September 8morning, describing her as having the soul of an angel and ‘the most beautiful woman I could’ve ever imagined being with’.

Days after her wedding, Ashleigh was rushed to hospital before later returning home to enjoy her final days privately with family.

‘She is comfortable and pain free, slept the entire night, she sleeps sitting up surrounded by pillows as she can’t lay down due to the fluid around her lungs,’ her father wrote on the GoFundMe page on Saturday.

‘This young lady is a fighter she is fighting so hard.’

‘Ashleigh’s message regarding melanoma and incompetent doctors has literally reached millions of people and she has defiantly saved lives which is what she is trying to do.

‘PLEASE keep sharing her story and saving lives all Ash wants is no one else to have to go through what she has gone through.’

Her father said the wedding was both the saddest and happiest day of his life, after the family’s world was flipped upside down by Ashleigh’s illness.
