Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plays down Paul Pogba’s Real Madrid ‘dream’ comments

‘He’s going to be here for another two years’: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plays down Paul Pogba’s Real Madrid ‘dream’ comments in hint Man United will trigger extra year in French midfielder’s contract

    • Pogba once again used the international break to flirt with Real Madrid
    • Man United midfielder repeated it is his ‘dream’ to one day play for Spanish club
    • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer poured cold water on any possibility of Bernabeu move
    • He said Pogba will see his contract through until next year and extra 12 months

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has brushed off Paul Pogba‘s latest comments that it would be ‘a dream’ to play for Real Madrid.

United’s record £89million signing has been persistently linked with a move to the Bernabeu where his French compatriot Zinedine Zidane is in charge.

Pogba has used the international break to flirt with the Spaniards before, while his agent Mino Raiola has also spoken openly of the player leaving Old Trafford.

But Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Pogba will see out his last two years there

But Solskjaer seemed relaxed about the situation when he faced the media on Friday morning, safe in the knowledge that United are expected to trigger a 12-month extension in Pogba’s contract before it expires at the end of the season.

‘Paul’s our player,’ said the United boss. ‘He’s going to be here for another two years and I’m sure he’s focussed on doing his best for us.

‘We want to see the best for Paul and I’m sure in the next couple of years we’ll get the best out of him.’

Solskjaer was asked about two other stories to emerge during the international break involving United: Project Big Picture and Marcus Rashford’s MBE.

‘It’s a definite that we as one of the bigger clubs have a responsibility to protect the football pyramid and smaller clubs,’ he said.

‘We have seen lately the effect this pandemic has had. The key thing is we want fans back in stadiums which will help other clubs. I’m just glad talks have started and let’s hope the powers-that-be decide how we’re going to do that.’

On Rashford’s honour, he added: ‘We are extremely proud once again that Marcus gets this recognition, and I’m sure his family and Marcus must have enjoyed that.

‘For me as his manager, I know how great he is as a person and how much he cares for others. We’re extremely proud and just want him to carry on his good job on and off the pitch.’
