Phillip Schofield winces as he gets a Covid-19 test ahead of filming festive edition of How To Spend It Well

Phillip Schofield was seen wincing as he got a Covid-19 test ahead of filming scenes for his show How To Spend It Well At Christmas on Thursday.

The This Morning host, 58, looked distinctively uncomfortable as he was tested for coronavirus before going on set to film the festive edition of his ITV consumer advice show.

Taking to Instagram to document the moment, the star didn’t appear too happy at the test as he jokingly captioned a clip writing ‘Merry fecking Christmas’.

The video started with Phil looking alarmed as he opened his mouth wide, while a health professional inserted a cotton swab down his throat.

Though the procedure was short, Phil moaned ‘that was horrible!’ as he captioned the clip: ‘Keeping #Howtospendit safe.’

The TV personality then braced himself as he prepared for the second swab up his nose.

The lady taking the test informed Phil that she had to put her hand behind his head as people often pulled back during this part of the procedure.

Phil then flashed a horrified look straight at the camera before grimacing as the swab was inserted up his nostrils.

Squeezing his eyes shut, he muttered ‘Oh God, oh God, oh God!’ as the health professional did her job.

The star then coughed and spluttered as she declared: ‘All done!’ with Phil writing: ‘Merry fecking Christmas.’

Like many TV shows, the cast and crew of How To Spend It Well are taking extra precautions during production to ensure everyone is safe amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In March this year, his travel show How To Spend It Well was taken off ITV schedules as coronavirus cases grew, throwing travel plans into chaos.

The show was postponed and replaced with a different travel show, with ITV telling The Sun Online at the time: ‘To reflect the latest situation on travelling abroad at this time, this series has been postponed for now and will be screened later in the year.’

Phillip has hit the headlines recently as revelations from his new book, Life’s What You Make It, has come to light.

In his book, Phillip revealed his mental health is still ‘a work in progress’ after publicly coming out in February.

The presenter explained he takes medication and has regular therapy sessions, and ‘still doubts’ his decision to reveal his sexuality.

Phillip – who has admitted the secret of his sexuality ‘was going to give him a breakdown’ – spoke candidly about struggling to accept his sexuality for the first time in his memoir.

In the autobiography, Phil revealed he became ‘increasingly aware’ of his sexuality over the past five years, and his wife Stephanie was made aware at the same time.

He also confided in his two daughters Molly, 27, and Ruby, 24, but claimed he ‘felt sick’ before opening up to them about his sexuality.

It comes after he admitted he pulled out of This Morning filming while struggling with his sexuality.

Speaking on Thursday’s The One Show, Phillip said: ‘I had to come out. If I didn’t, the secret was going to give me a total breakdown… at best.’

Detailing his decision to pull out of filming, he said: ‘I sat alone in the flat, staring at the walls, as This Morning started on the other side of London.

‘It was a very stupid thing to do… all my closest friends knew how ragged my head was but no one except Steph knew why.’

Phillip made the decision to come out in February when he shared an emotional Instagram statement with his followers, before being interviewed by co-host Holly Willoughby just moments later.
