RACCOONS run rampant in California bank as man tries to use ATM

Masked bandits! Man trying to use the ATM at a California bank is shocked to discover a pair of RACCOONS running rampant inside

    • The two juvenile raccoon intruders were spotted by a man who had been using an ATM at the bank in Redwood City, California
    • He thought the two critters were stuffed animals but soon discovered they were not when they started moving
    • Staff with the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA arrived on the scene and eventually shooed the animals away

Masked and looking to get into trouble, a group of racoons were found inside a bank in California by animal rescue on Tuesday.

The two juvenile raccoon intruders were spotted by a man who had been using an ATM at the bank in Redwood City, California, the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA (PHS/SPCA) said in a statement

The man thought the raccoons were just stuffed animals sitting on the desk inside the bank but he soon noticed they were the real thing when they started moving. It was then that he called PHS/SPCA.

‘It’s not every day an animal organization gets called to deal with a bank break in, but since the bank robbers were masked bandits of the wildlife kind, we were indeed the appropriate responders,’ PHS/SPCA’s Communications Manager Buffy Martin Tarbox said.

‘The bank managers let our rescue staff into the bank, and after about ten minutes of chasing the raccoons around the bank, we were finally able to safely shoo them outside. They apparently didn’t want to leave the bank.’

It is believed that the sneaky critters used a nearby tree to get onto the building’s roof, gaining access to the building.

‘There were muddy pawprints on a tree outside the bank, so we suspect the raccoons climbed the tree to the roof of the bank, and then somehow managed to crawl into the air ducts and fell through the ceiling tiles onto the floor of the bank,’ Tarbox added.

‘There were several broken ceiling tiles, and the masked bandits knocked papers around and even a computer over. Thankfully the raccoons were not injured during their morning escapade, and to our knowledge they didn’t abscond with any money.’

The raccoons were eventually shooed away from the bank after the 10 minute chase.
