A social media manager has discovered a $12 Kmart skirt that looks almost identical to a popular brand costing more than seven times the price.

Jasmine, from Sydney, was shopping in the department store when she stumbled across a grey-coloured midi skirt with ruching side seams, in which she thought appeared similar to an $80 style from Kookai.

‘I literally found the ultimate Kookai skirt at Kmart. I swear I bought this from Kookai for 80 bucks,’ Jasmine said in an amusing TikTok video.

‘Like we know that every girl in Sydney has this Kookai skirt. At Kmart, it’s 12 bucks, like are you serious? It’s basically free.’

Upon closer inspection, Jasmine realised the Kmart skirt was displayed in the maternity aisle at the store.

‘Wait, hold up. This is actually Kookai maternity. Oh my god guys, Kmart do Kookai maternity. So the smaller sizes are size 12 but we can work with that,’ she said.

‘Like Kookai maternity, honestly I’m all for that Kmart, we love that.’

During her shop, Jasmine said she spotted a $6 top that looked remarkably similar to Kookai’s $60 version.

‘Guys I found more Kookai at Kmart. Six bucks for these cute little rib stretchy tees. I’m getting the nude, I’m getting the grey and I’m also getting the white,’ she said.

‘They’re all six bucks each, they’re basically free. K for Kookai, K for Kmart. Big vibes.’

Her video has since been viewed more than 285,000 times, with dozens of people seeing the humorous side to her lighthearted commentary.

‘It’s all six bucks until I leave Kmart with $200 worth of goods. But it’s the thought that counts. Kmart is life,’ one woman wrote.

Many declared ‘it’s basically free’ was their favourite quote from the video.

‘It’s basically free. I’m dead,’ one wrote, alongside a laughing emoji, while another said:’It’s basically free. That is what I say to my husband all the time. Kmart forever.’

One woman joked: ‘Kmart is “basically free”. Nek minute at the checkout “$989.50”.’

One shopper who owns the $12 skirt from Kmart said: ‘It’s the most comfortable pregnancy skirt ever. I have it.’

'So everyone in the Bankstown, Greenacre, Merrylands area, stop saving up all of those Centrelink fortnightly payments for real Givenchy shoes and get the Kmart ones for $10,' she said
