Melbourne Cup will go ahead without fans for the first time EVER – following Victorian government’s backflip on owners being allowed trackside
The Victoria Racing Club have announced no fans will be allowed to attend the Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse next week.
The city is still grappling the second wave of COVID-19, with authorities making the announcement on Sunday afternoon.
The race that stops the nation normally hosts 100,000 punters at Flemington, but this year the grandstands will be empty.
The decision comes after the Victorian government backflipped on their decision to allow spectators at the Cox Plate over the weekend.
More to come.
