SAS Australia’s Chief Instructor Ant Middleton reveals why he believes Roxy Jacenko REALLY quit the show early

Roxy Jacenko has received widespread backlash from fans for her decision to quit Seven’s SAS Australia just six hours into filming.

But the show’s Chief Instructor Ant Middleton says he believes the PR guru, 40, had good reason to opt-out early.

Speaking to Monday’s Kyle And Jackie O Show, the former British soldier, 39, said Roxy shouldn’t feel ashamed of her decision, as ‘the course just wasn’t for her’.

‘[Roxy] blasted a few hours, but this course isn’t for most people and there’s no  shame in that,’ Ant said simply.

‘I take my hat off to everyone who walked through my gates, including Roxy. Even though I didn’t get to know her, so I can’t really comment on her,’ he said, insisting that it ‘took balls’ just to sign up for the show.

It comes after Roxy rubbished rumours she quit SAS Australia due to a ‘lack of comforts’ on-set.

Speaking to photographers outside a Sydney hospital last month, the publicity doyenne explained that she actually threw in the towel due to injuries she’d sustained from a horse riding accident prior to taking part in the show.

‘It definitely wasn’t a lack of creature comforts,’ Roxy insisted, before explaining that she’d actually she’d fractured her hip and pelvis just six weeks before arriving at SAS Australia’s Snowy Mountains set.

‘I wasn’t really in the best position to be trying to be an SAS soldier, but I got there and I showed up and I think people will be very shocked by it,’ she insisted.

In the short time she was on the program, Roxy was reportedly pushed out of a helicopter, punched by former Ironwoman Candice Warner and screamed at by SAS agents.

Roxy finally quit after the instructors made the celebrities submerge themselves in freezing cold water as punishment.

The emotional publicity queen refused to get into the water, and instead told the instructors that she wanted off the show.

‘I can’t do it. I actually can’t… My leg’s killing me. I can’t do it,’ Roxy told the instructors as she handed over her armband.

Despite being asked if she was ‘100 per cent sure’, Roxy insisted she couldn’t do it, before breaking down in tears.

‘It’s so f**king painful. I don’t want to give up…’ she cried, as the instructor described her decision to leave as ‘unfortunate’.

She later added: ‘I’ve always had the mindset of take every opportunity that comes your way. But people think that I can’t or won’t, or wouldn’t expect it. And that’s been every single thing that I’ve done…

‘But for me, it doesn’t matter what everybody else thinks, it doesn’t matter if you get to day 12 or day two, the fact that I’ve actually taken the punt to do it with determination and grit no matter what, that’s enough for me.’

SAS Australia continues Monday at 7.30pm on Channel Seven
