SAS Australia’s Nick Cummins hits back at criticism over Sabrina Frederick fight

Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins hits back at criticism over his boxing match with Sabrina Frederick on SAS Australia – as model Erin McNaught defends him on The Morning Show

SAS Australia star Nick Cummins has hit back at criticism over his boxing match with AFLW co-star, Sabrina Frederick.

On Tuesday, the 33-year-old shared an interview of model Erin McNaught, 38, on The Morning Show as she defended the ex-Wallabies footballer.

‘What happens on ground sometimes isn’t always what you see. With that said, I appreciate everyone’s concern around the topic,’ he said.

Erin appeared to take Nick’s side during the morning show when quizzed about the controversial fight scene.

Sabrina chose to fight Nick during a boxing challenge on the gruelling military-style reality show.

‘What they didn’t show is that Nick was actually really hesitant to hit Sabrina initially,’ Erin said.

‘The DS (directing staff) were just shouting at him, ”Hit her! Hit her!” And then she’s gone in for him,’ she added.

Erin finished by saying she was upset people were targeting Nick, as he was simply following the rules of the show.

‘If we didn’t do what we were told to do, we’d get kicked off. It’s as simple as that.’

The fight between Nick and Sabrina turned into one of the series’ most controversial moments, with viewers torn over whether Nick should have accepted the challenge.

Chief Instructor Ant Middleton, 39, defended the scene, insisting that Nick and Sabrina’s clash was fairly matched.

‘I don’t go easy, there is no favouritism here,’ the former British soldier told Nova’s on Monday.

‘It’s like, “Can you do the job?”. I don’t care what gender you are, it’s not about race, religion etc etc. “Can you do the job, yes or no?”‘ he added.

SAS Australia continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel Seven
