‘It’s Taser time d**khead’: Shocking moment police use stun guns on a motorist who they claim refused a breath test after speeding

    • Police allege Matthew Gale was drunk and speeding on the Gold Coast in May
    • The 38-year-old pulled his car over and asked police not to tailgate him ‘ever’
    • A tussle broke out which ended with Mr Gale being forced to the ground

Police told a motorist ‘it’s Taser time, d**khead’ before zapping him during a tussle at a traffic stop.

Officers were travelling in an unmarked car in Broadbeach Waters on the Gold Coast at 8.30pm on May 21 when they began following a car driven by Matthew Gale.

Body cam footage showed Gale, 38, who was allegedly travelling 40km/h over the limit, stop the car and get out.

‘Please don’t ever tailgate me like that,’ he told police in the video.

Matthew Gale stopped the vehicle and got out of the car, telling police: ‘Please don’t ever tailgate me like that.’

Police asked for Mr Gale’s licence and went to take it out of his wallet, prompting to driver to say, ‘do not snatch, ever,’ according to footage released by 9 News on Wednesday.

A scuffle broke out between the trio which ended with Mr Gale being forced to the ground.

‘Righto, it’s Taser time d***head,’ one officer said.

‘Roll over on your stomach *****. Roll over on your stomach!’ he yelled over the motorist’s screams.

Mr Gale faces five charges including obstructing police and speeding, with police also claiming he was drink driving.

But defence lawyer Troy Smith believes the footage shows that the behaviour of the police officers was unwarranted.

‘The inappropriate deployment of the taser, whether the arrest was unlawful and certainly the potentials for an assault on our client,’ he said.

‘We’ve made a complaint to police ethical standards and we’re now waiting on a reply.’

Mr Gale will appear in Southport Court on Monday.
