Difficult time: Jennifer Garner has revealed she almost walked away from her role on Dallas Buyers Club after filming began but co-star Matthew McConaughey persuaded her not to quit
She had just given birth to her third child with then husband Ben Affleck and had taken the role at her agent’s urging because she’d taken ‘so much time’ focused on her family instead of her career.
‘So I took it, and that was why… Because it was time for me to go back to work,’ she explained.
With her hormones in overdrive and no time on set to pump her breast milk, she said she just broke down.
‘It was bedtime, and we were doing some scene that was supposed to be light, and I started crying and I was like, ‘I have to quit. I have to go home and be with my kids. I just can’t do this anymore,’ she shared.
‘And sweet Matthew McConaughey pulled me aside and said, ‘What is going on with you?’
Working mom: The actress, 48, had just given birth to her third child, son Samuel, when she took the Dallas Buyers Club role after her agent told her it was time to go back to work. She’s pictured with Samuel, now eight, and daughters Violet, 14, and Seraphina, 11, in 2018

Supportive: She recalled McConaughey told her: ‘You can do both. You’ve got it. You can do it’. He made sure she got time during filming to pump her breast milk in private. The pair are pictured at the movie’s premiere in 2013
The actor told the crew to take a break allowing Garner to take time to pump her milk and from then on, whenever she needed to do so, she’d give McConaughey a sign and there’d be a pause in filming.
‘He said, ‘You can do both. You’ve got it. You can do it’,’ she recalled.
Her son Samuel is now eight and Garner is also mom to daughters Violet, 14, and Seraphina,11.
She and Affleck split in 2015 after a decade of marriage and finalized their divorce in 218.
