Jenna Bush Hager and her three children had a heartwarming Zoom reunion with Sully H.W. Bush, the service dog who cared for her grandfather, former President George H.W. Bush, during the last six months of his life.

The four-year-old yellow labrador, who now serves U.S. military veterans at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, caught up with his former family in a segment that aired on the Today show on Veteran’s Day.

Not only did Jenna’s daughters Mila, seven, and Poppy, five, get to virtually chat with Sully, but they also had the opportunity to introduce the service dog to their one-year-old brother Hal.

‘Hello little doggy, I want to hug you,’ Poppy said.

‘Do you remember Great Gampy?’ Mila asked, prompting her sister to hold up a picture of their late great-grandfather.

‘He absolutely remembers,’ replied Sully’s trainer, Valerie Cramer. ‘He’s nodding.’

Poppy then suggested they get her baby brother Hal so he could meet the service dog for the first time.

‘You see the doggie?’ Jenna asked Hal, who was happily pointing at Sully on the screen while sitting on her lap.

At the end of the call, the girls yelled: ‘I love you, Sully!’ before signing off.

The reunion was in celebration of Sully being honored with a life-size bronze statue at America’s VetDogs’ campus in Smithtown, New York, for Veteran’s Day.

Sully was trained at the organization, which places service and guide dogs to military veterans and first responders with physical injuries, PTSD, hearing and vision loss, and seizures.

This is actually the second statue of Sully, whose bronze likeness was unveiled at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas, last year.

‘It’s wonderful, the credit to all service dogs,’ Cramer told Jenna. ‘Even though Sully is a celebrity service dog, I think so many of our clients see a little bit of their dog every time they see Sully.’

Sully captured the nation’s hearts when he was pictured laying in front of the former president’s flag-draped casket in December 2018 — epitomizing devotion.

George H.W. served as a pilot in the Navy during World War II, but one of his main concerns was that he would be taking Sully away from another veteran in need.

‘The thing that we had all arranged prior to Sully even going to your grandfather was that Sully would continue to work with veterans forever and that he would share the experience and the joy that Sully and a service dog can give to a veteran,’ Cramer told Jenna. ‘And that’s really a gift that your grandfather gave to everyone.’

Sully has been kept in contact with the Bush family following his former owner’s death, and last year he appeared on the Today show with Jenna and her daughters to meet his namesake, Sullenberger, for the first time.

On Wednesday’s show, Jenna opened up about her family’s virtual reunion with her grandfather’s beloved dog.

‘Sully actually has done other Zooms. This was not his first Zoom,’ she explained. ‘He Zoomed with some veterans because now he can’t be in the hospital because of COVID.’

The mother of three said her daughters were curious about whether Sully knows other kids, which he does. The service dog often works with children of veterans, and Cramer kindly told her that Mila and Poppy ‘trained him well.’

During the show, Jenna also reflected on giving the Obamas a tour of the White House over a decade ago after the 2008 election.

On Tuesday, she took to Instagram to share photos of herself with Malia and Sasha, who were only ten and seven at the time.

In one picture, they can be seen standing on the White House balcony, with Sasha waving towards the lawn.

The other two show Jenna, her twin sister Barbara, and their mother Laura Bush standing at the top of a hallway as the Obama girls slide down the banister.

‘Twelve years ago (!!!) today—I drove from my job teaching in Baltimore to meet my mom and sister in DC to show the next residents of this house their new home,’ Jenna wrote in the caption.

‘Barbara and I taught the girls how to slide down the banister and all the secrets of the White House we loved as little girls—the best hiding spots, the movie theatre, and bowling alley.

‘We showed them our rooms that would soon be theirs. Twelve years! PS I love my “teacher outfit” it makes me nostalgic for that time.’

The photos, which serve as an example of what a peaceful transition of power looks like, have gone viral this week as President Donald Trump continues to refuse to concede to President-elect Joe Biden.

Jenna recently opened up about helping transition Malia and Sasha into the White House during an interview on The Dr. Oz Show.

‘I loved that moment,’ she said. ‘We gave them a tour of the White House. We showed them what was our bedrooms, which was going to become their bedrooms.

‘We just had such a beautiful day because really, we have so much more in common than what divides us, especially the kids.

‘We saw ourselves in those precious little girls because when our grandfather became president, we were their age,’ she added.

‘So we knew what was magical about the White House. We taught them how to slide down the banister, which I’m sure Mrs. Obama loved. But we’re so proud of those girls.’
