Good Morning Britain plunged into darkness after technical glitch

‘Did someone forget to pay the bill?’: Good Morning Britain suffers technical glitch as the lights FAIL leaving Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid sitting in the dark

Good Morning Britain descended into chaos on Thursday morning as the studio was left in darkness following a technical glitch.

Hosts Ben Shephard, 45, and Susanna Reid, 49, were forced to use their mobile phones for light as they struggled to see after the studios lights suddenly failed, with Ben quipping: ‘Did someone forget to pay the bill?’

The technical failure occurred as the ITV programme aired their competition with Andi Peters, with the presenter, 50, forced to prolong his segment as the studio attempted to fix the problem.

Oh dear! Good Morning Britain descended into chaos on Thursday morning as the studio was left in darkness following a technical glitch

As he explained the competition in great detail, Andi said: ‘You’re probably thinking, why is he talking so much?

‘I am talking a lot today because back in the studio, apparently they haven’t got any lights! So I could be here for hours chatting.’

The cameras then cut back to the studio where Ben and Susanna were sitting, with only house lights functioning.

Commenting on the situation, Ben said: ‘We’re not really sure what has happened.

‘Alexa, turn the lights back on – no, that didn’t work. You’ve got one light there!

‘It’s extraordinary this, because if we have a look at the studio, you can see how many lights we have – and not one of them is on.’

While Susanna remarked that the darkness wasn’t ideal for for television production, stating: ‘The house lights are on, like you’re in a canteen. So, we have that kind of rather unflattering light.’

The duo were seen using their mobile phones for light as they sat in the dim studio.

In a hilarious moment, the opening lines of The Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel began playing, which features the opening lines: ‘hello darkness, my old friend.’

As the hosts giggled, Ben then addressed a camera man as he remarked: ‘If he looks up, can you see one of the house lights?

‘That’s not enough lighting for us – not at our age! Did someone forget to pay the bill?’

Within moments, the lights suddenly came back on, with Susanna quipping: ‘Someone turned them off and then back on again.’

While Ben added: ‘And he said, “Let there be light, and there was light”.’

As they went on to continue the show, Susanna couldn’t resist one final comical comment as she joked: ‘It’s too bright now!’

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays from 6am on ITV.

Whoops: 'That's not enough lighting for us - not at our age! Did someone forget to pay the bill?'
