‘It proves how strong he is mentally’: Max George says he was ‘devastated’ to learn bandmate Tom Parker was battling a terminal brain tumour
Max George has revealed he was ‘devastated’ to learn his bandmate Tom Parker was battling a terminal brain tumour.
The Wanted star, 32, said he’s in awe of how his pal has handled the diagnosis and still views him as a ‘big brother’ even while he’s undergoing treatment for the tumour.
It comes after Max let slip earlier this month that Tom have welcomed his second child with wife Kelsey, weeks after the singer revealed he has grade four glioblastoma.

Max told The Sun that he’s tried to support Tom following his diagnosis, as he undergoes treatment to try and prolong his life.
He said: ‘It’s difficult to put into words really. It’s devastating to hear.
‘I think about Tom all the time. Tom’s always been an inspiration to me anyway, I always look up to Tom as a big brother, he is the leader of the band and even with what he’s going through, it just proves how strong he is mentally and I normally ring him on a Sunday and we have a laugh about what I’ve done the night before.’

Max also hinted that with the upcoming 10th anniversary of The Wanted’s single All Time Low, now couldn’t be a better time for the band to reunite.
He added: ‘I would love us to do something, 100 per cent. And I’m sure, I’m pretty sure, unless I’m way off, that the other boys would feel the same way.’
Max also laughed off Tom branding him a ‘k******d’ for revealing the birth of his second child during an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine.
The star said at the time: ‘I spoke to him yesterday and he’s doing good, he’s doing great.
‘Kelsey gave birth to their second child last week. He’s a fighter, Tom, he will be alright. If you’re watching by the way, mwah, I love you all.’
Tom then later said he and Kelsey had planned to share the birth of their second child with OK! Magazine, but missed the opportunity due to Max’s blunder.
In a new interview, the All Time Low hitmaker and the actress said: ‘We were going, ”You k**bhead!” I texted him saying, ”You’ve got a big mouth!”’

The parents-of-two, who also share daughter Aurelia, 15 months, expressed their delight at growing their family as they added to the publication: ‘He is the perfect baby – especially compared to having Aurelia first. I barely even know I’ve got him.
‘He’s so chilled. He’s so different to Aurelia – she was always very active. Bodhi means enlightenment. So it just goes perfectly with our situation right now. He’s the light at the end of our tunnel.’
On October 12, Tom announced he has grade four glioblastoma, with the Bolton native undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment in a bid to prolong his life.
Life expectancy for this illness ranges from three months to 18 months after diagnosis, but the couple have not asked to hear Tom’s prognosis amid fears he would ‘sit and count down the days and not live his life’.

The Grease star and the vlogger announced they were expecting their second child in June this year.
Kelsey decided she wanted a home birth, so Tom could be around after Covid restrictions in hospital would have limited their time together during labour.
The couple have been together for more than 10 years after originally meeting in a night club. They became engaged in 2016 and tied the knot two years later in July 2018.
They decided to announce his devastating diagnosis, 36 weeks into Kelsey’s pregnancy.
Posting a photo with Kelsey and Aurelia Rose, the stage star wrote: ‘Hey guys, you know that we’ve both been quiet on social media for a few weeks and it’s time to tell you why.
‘There’s no easy way to say this but I’ve sadly been diagnosed with a Brain Tumour and I’m already undergoing treatment.
‘We decided, after a lot of thought, that rather than hiding away and trying to keep it a secret, we would do one interview where we could lay out all the details and let everyone know the facts in our own way.
‘We are all absolutely devastated but we are gonna fight this all the way. We don’t want your sadness, we just want love and positivity and together we will raise awareness of this terrible disease and look for all available treatment options.
‘It’s gonna be a tough battle but with everyone’s love and support we are going to beat this. Tom and Kelsey xxx.’
‘We are going to beat this’: In an emotional statement last month, Tom revealed he has grade four glioblastoma, and was undergoing treatment and vowed to beat the deadly disease
