Melbourne doctor slams Pete Evans over ridiculous Covid conspiracy theories

Melbourne doctor brilliantly shuts down Pete Evans for dangerously claiming coronavirus ‘doesn’t exist’ and ‘can’t spread to vulnerable people’

    • A Melbourne doctor has slammed conspiracy theorist Pete Evans over Covid
    • Evans has again fronted an interview to claim Covid is not real and can’t spread
    • Dr Vyom Sharma branded Evans a ‘f**king idiot’ over his controversial views
    • Evans’ theories have been repeatedly dispelled by scientists and authorities

A Melbourne doctor has slammed conspiracy theorist Pete Evans for his repeated dangerous rhetoric about the coronavirus pandemic.

The former celebrity chef, 47, has stood firm in his belief that the deadly respiratory virus is ‘fake’, a ‘conspiracy’ or a scare campaign driven by the media and politicians – theories that have been repeatedly dispelled by scientists and medical professionals.

Most recently, Evans claimed Covid can’t be spread to vulnerable people, and went so far as to say people should choose to believe that they’re not contagious.

Dr Vyom Sharma, a GP and medical commentator from Melbourne, slammed the dangerous comments and said Evans was a ‘f**king idiot’.

Dr Sharma was responding to an Idea’s Digest podcast interview Evans did in which he said: ‘Do we have the belief in ourselves that we’re contagious, that we are spreaders of something?’

‘I choose not to believe in that narrative because it doesn’t make any sense to me.’

The interviewer asked Evans if he was concerned that his refusal to acknowledge the global health crisis could potentially harm vulnerable people and contribute to the spread of the disease.

‘It doesn’t spread the virus,’ he said while scoffing and laughing at the suggestion.

Dr Sharma shared the short clip on Twitter on Saturday to ridicule the logic.

‘I choose not to believe that narrative because it doesn’t make any sense to me’ – that is the literal Merriam Webster dictionary definition of ‘f***ing idiot’,’ Dr Sharma said.

‘Einstein’s theory of special relativity makes no sense to me.

‘But I believe the narrative because I know there are people out there who are smarter than me, and know more things. And hence I rely on my GPS when driving.’

Evans' theories have all been scientifically disproven

Evans has been labelled a 'conspiracy theorist'

During the controversial interview, the former My Kitchen Rules judge also questioned the type of people who have caught Covid throughout the crisis

During the controversial interview, the former My Kitchen Rules judge also questioned the type of people who have caught Covid throughout the crisis.

He suggested healthy people shouldn’t have to sacrifice their freedom for the sake of vulnerable people.

‘Now it’s very controversial, but how did these people live their lives?’ he said, referencing those with underlying conditions who contracted Covid.

‘What choices did they make through their lives to get Type 2 diabetes or heart disease or this or that or the other?’ he asked.

‘How do we justify certain behaviours for a population… for example somebody that has lived a life and not looked after themselves, gotten to a point where they’re sick… you’re healthy so does that mean you can’t live your life, based off the choices that other people have made?’

There are calls to boycott Evans’ products and services in response to his repeated denial of the virus.

Coles and Pan Macmillan have both been urged to suspend any working relationship with the former reality TV chef.

Evans has been called out for his perspective on the pandemic for months – after falsely claiming to sell a lamp that could cure Covid and making ridiculous and false claims about the disease.

He has also been scrutinised for his dangerous anti-vaccination views.

He recently claimed he was not an anti-vaxxer, but was instead ‘pro-choice’ and ‘pro-safe vac’ – terms that incorrectly suggest some vaccines are not safe.

Anti-vaxxers spread conspiracy theories with no basis in scientific fact. They claim that ‘boosting’ the immune system through diet, supplements and sunlight can make people immune to certain diseases, which is completely false.

Before vaccination campaigns in the 1960s and ’70s, diseases such as tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough killed thousands of children.

Vaccines against each of the conditions significantly lowered their presence within the community, and dying from one of these would be considered extremely rare.
