    Series One – 2002

    Winner: Tony Blackburn (radio DJ)

Memorable names: Tara Palmer-Tomkinson (socialite), Darren Day (actor)

It was the series that started it all, with eight unknowing celebrities, including socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and glamour model Nell McAndrew dropped at a remote campsite in Northern Australia to face two weeks of trials and hardship.

Compared to recent years the series is relatively tame, with stars facing challenges such as being covered with gunge and having to spend an entire night sat under a tree.

But it wasn’t without drama, with comedian Rhona Cameron launching into an explosive rant about her fellow celebrities, declaring: ‘Sometimes, sometimes we are all like that, OK?’

But DJ Tony rose above the petty rows, and after winning the hearts of viewers with his love of logs, 11 million saw him be crowned the first King of the Jungle.

    Series Two – 2003

    Winner: Phil Tufnell (cricketer)

Memorable names: Antony Worrall Thompson (chef), Danniella Westbrook (actress), John Fashanu (footballer)

Expectations were high for I’m A Celebrity’s second series, and Antony Worrall Thompson certainly delivered as he staged a sit-in protest before threatening to quit the show as he demanded bosses provide him with cigarettes. He was eventually convinced to stay by producers.

Actress Danniella Westbrook also quit the show nine days in after begging viewers to vote her out, admitting she’d rather be in Holloway Prison then spend another day in the camp.

Phil went onto beat England footballer John Fashanu – who faced his fair share of trials thanks to the viewing public – to be crowned the second King of the Jungle.

    Series Three – 2004

Winner: Kerry Katona, then McFadden (singer)

Memorable names: Katie Price (glamour model), Peter Andre (singer), John Lydon (singer)

I’m A Celebrity’s third instalment is thought by many to be the one that took it from popular reality show to ITV juggernaut, as it saw the birth of the one of the most iconic marriages in celebrity history.

Singer Peter Andre and glamour model Katie Price (known then as Jordan) fell in love in front of viewers’ eyes despite being from polar opposite worlds, and went onto marry a year after leaving the show, before divorcing in 2009.

It was a series full of big names including The Sex Pistols’ Johnny ‘Rotten’ Lydon, who angrily quit the show after 11 days when viewers failed to vote him out, and BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond.

A record-breaking 14 million viewers saw Atomic Kitten star Kerry be crowned series champion, making her the show’s first Queen of the Jungle.

    Winner: Joe Pasquale (comedian)

Memorable names: Paul Burrell (royal butler), Natalie Appleton (singer), Brian Harvey (singer)

For the first (and only) time, I’m A Celebrity bosses opted to air two series in the same year, and luckily viewers hadn’t tired of the toe-curling Bushtucker trials, with the fourth series creating one of the most hilarious and iconic moments in the show’s history.

Paul Burrell – who served as a butler for the late Princess Diana – squealed and trembled his way through the Hell Holes trial, which left hosts Ant and Dec in hysterical laughter.

East 17 singer Brian Harvey dramatically quit the show after clashing with broadcaster Janet Street-Porter, with All Saints’ Natalie Appleton needing oxygen after struggling to complete a tightrope trial. She withdrew the next day.

    Series Five – 2005

Winner: Carol Thatcher (journalist and daughter of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher)

Memorable names: Jimmy Osmond (singer), Antony Costa (singer), Sid Owen (EastEnders star)

This series proved a challenge from the start with EastEnders star Elaine Lordan fainting twice just hours into her jungle stint, and Kimberley Davies withdrawing several days later after suffering an injury during a disastrous jump from a helicopter.

It also starred the comedy duo Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball, the latter of which passed away last month aged 76.

Teen idol Jimmy Osmond also faced the wrath of show bosses after smuggling in a secret message he’d hidden inside a teddy bear, telling the Bush telegraph it had a recorded voice note from his wife and children.

Memorable names: Janice Dickinson (model), Gemma Atkinson (actress), Katie Hopkins (The Apprentice star)

Janice broke an I’m A Celebrity record this series when she was voted to take part in 10 Bushtucker Trials, and didn’t hold back when it came to ruffling feathers in camp.

Cerys Matthews and Marc Bannerman also formed a fleeting romance among the jungle trees which quickly fizzled out, but it was Christopher Biggins who proved to be the standout star as he stormed to victory.

    Series Eight – 2008

Winner: Joe Swash (actor and presenter)

Memorable names: David Van Day (singer), Nicola McLean (glamour model), Timmy Mallet (children’s TV star)

While Joe won over viewers early on when he faced the Ice-Scream van trial opposite Nicola, David quickly carved himself out as the series’ villain, winding up campmates and making this series the most argument-filled yet.

Timmy also proved to be a love-hate figure for many and didn’t hold back in poking fun at other campmates including politician Robert Kilroy-Silk who famously got his revenge during a live trial.

Throughout the series, Star Trek’s Georgia Takei also carved himself out as a fan favourite, forming a sweet friendship with Joe and taking on any Bushtucker Trial with humour.

    Series Nine – 2009

    Winner: Gino D’Acampo (chef)

Memorable names: Kim Woodburn (presenter), Samantha Fox (glamour model), Katie Price (glamour model)

For the first time in I’m A Celebrity history, a celebrity decided to take on the challenge of returning to the jungle, as Katie Price headed back to the camp following her divorce from Peter earlier in the year.

Fans were quick to put her through hell as Katie faced a whopping seven Bushtucker Trials in a row before deciding to quit the show, brutally dumping her then-boyfriend Alex Reid during her exit interview after learning he’d flown to Australia to try and propose to her.

While Kim faced her fair share of trials, it was Gino who became series champion for facing the infamous ‘eating trial’ (The Bushtucker Bonanza), after already leaving fans in hysterics days earlier when he faced the Slip and Slide challenge with Stuart Manning.

    Series Ten – 2010

Winner: Stacey Solomon (presenter and singer)

Memorable names: Gillian McKeith (celebrity nutritionist), Linford Christie (Olympic champion), Alison Hammond (Big Brother star)

I’m A Celebrity 2010 is remembered for one thing and one thing only: the moment Gillian McKeith fainted on live television.

Viewers delighted in watching her scream with terror as she face trial after trial after trial, bringing back barely any food which led to rising tensions in the camp.

But it was clear the stars were thrilled when Gillian was forced to pull out of the trial for ‘fainting,’ with Linford taking her place and earning close to a full house.

It’s been disputed down the years whether Gillian’s faint was real, with Britt Ekland declaring: ‘She’s maybe as good of an actress as I am.’

Gillian proved to be one of the series’ standout stars as she was exposed for smuggling condiments into camp using specially-made underwear, but Stacey’s ever-sunny disposition, even in the face of a horrific Trial, saw her overwhelmingly voted to be crowned series champion.

TV presenter Pat Sharp morphed into the series villain as he frequently sought to cause drama in the camp, including threatening to burn Lorraine Chase’s beloved teddy bear Tedward.

However it seemed some of his villainous ways had an ulterior motive, as he was quickly voted to face the next Trial, which he completed with ease to bring back much-needed food for the camp.

Elsewhere Olympic champion Fatima Whitbread made headlines when a cockroach made its way up her nose during the Fill Your Face Extreme trial.

    Winner: Charlie Brooks (EastEnders star)

Memorable names: Ashley Roberts (singer), Hugo Taylor (Made In Chelsea star), Helen Flanagan (actress)

This series sparked headlines of a whole new kind when it was revealed that sitting MP Nadine Dorries had signed up for the show in the hope of reaching a wider audience with her political views.

While fans quickly voted for her to take on a trial, it was actress Helen who reportedly annoyed producers and even hosts Ant and Dec by quitting numerous challenges without even giving them a try, causing tension in the camp as the celebrities went without food for nearly 10 days.

But it seemed miracles could happen in the jungle, as Helen magically overcame her fears during her sixth trial Deadly Delivery which saw her bring back 12 stars for the camp.

Boxer David Haye also proved a fan favourite for taking on the challenges with ease, while darts champion Eric Bristow left many in hysterics with dry no-holds-barred views of the celebrities.

It proved to be another close race in the final, with Charlie being crowned winner with little more than 1% more of the vote then runner-up Ashley.

    Winner: Kian Egan (Westlife star)

Memorable names: Lucy Pargeter (Emmerdale star), Joey Essex (TOWIE star), Matthew Wright (broadcaster)

I’m A Celebrity 2013 saw the birth of ‘contrabandgate,’ when former Miss Great Britain Amy Willerton was accused of smuggling makeup and clothes into camp and refusing to hand it in despite being asked by bosses.

It sparked outrage when stars left the camp as they saw the scenes play out on TV, with Rebecca Adlington particularly furious after she confronted Amy about her behaviour.

Elsewhere Joey Essex amused fans when he admitted he couldn’t tell the time, but quickly won them over when he took on an array of trials.

    Series 14 (2014)

Winner: Carl ‘Foggy’ Fogarty (superbike racer)

Memorable names: Jimmy Bullard (footballer), Gemma Collins (TOWIE star), Melanie Sykes (presenter)

Despite admitting she ‘could be like Bear Grylls’ once she got into the jungle, Gemma struggled to make it that far, as she broke down in tears mere seconds after stepping into the helicopter.

After eventually arriving in the jungle, Gemma failed to settle in the camp life, admitting she was convinced she had malaria, and quit after just two days.

While Jimmy and X Factor star Jake Quickenden seemed to form a solid friendship, things took a turn when the footballer poked fun at him in what he viewed as harmless ‘banter.’ Viewers didn’t seem to agree, and Jimmy was the first celebrity to be voted off the show.

While fans enjoyed the unlikely ‘broomance’ between Michael Buerk and Tinchy Stryder, Foggy remained a favourite from the start thanks to his own friendship with Jake, and after the racer took on the infamous Bushtucker Bonanza he was crowned winner.

She didn’t hold back in sharing her views on the stars, and even refused to take part in trials simply out of spite.

Ferne left viewers gripped when she faced the Panic Pit trial, leaving even Ant and Dec shocked as she was wrapped in snakes while trapped in an underground chamber.

Spencer Matthews proved to be the ‘campmate that never was’ as he withdrew from the show mere hours after entering the camp, as it was revealed he’d clashed with bosses after demanding they provide him with steroids in what he described as ‘an error of judgement.’

Ahead of I’m A Celebrity 2017, there were doubts on whether host Ant would join Dec Down Under after he revealed his secret battle with prescription drugs, and subsequent trip to rehab, but viewers need not have worried as he returned to the show.

YouTube star Jack Maynard was also forced to withdraw from the show by bosses after just three days when offensive tweets he’d posted years earlier were discovered.

The series was dominated by ‘strawberrygate’ as Amir and Iain opted to eat the strawberries and cream they’d won during the Dingo Dollar challenge, only to then come clean to the camp hours later, sparking a raging response from fans on social media.

There were also accusations of bullying aimed at other campmates including Dennis Wise and Jamie Lomas, with Iain supposedly targeted when he failed to struggled to complete some of the trials, but he later denied the claims.

But it was the ever-sunny Toff who was crowned winner with an overwhelming majority as she managed to maintain a positive outlook in the midst of the camp hardship.

Harry won the hearts of the nations with tales of his beloved wife Sandra and his footballing career, while Emily also surprised many with her own comedic chops, including leaving many fans in hysterical laughter when she confessed her love for the animated candle Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast.

John quickly lived up to his ‘fabulous’ name as he faced an array of trials, including the legendary ‘eating trial’ after reaching the final three, while Harry was eventually crowned the series winner with Emily finishing runner-up.
