He’s playing the lead in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s directorial debut Tick, Tick… Boom!

And on Monday, Andrew Garfield was back on the New York City location set of the musical.

The actor, 37, was seen arriving wearing a face mask and face shield and then laughing and joking with Miranda as they set up a scene.

Garfield plays Rent composer and playwright Jonathan Larson in an adaptation of the latter’s own one-man stage play.

The musical follows Larson as he struggles with an existential and professional crisis on the eve of his 30th birthday, according to Backstage.com.

Originally staged by Larson in 1990, it was adapted after his death into a three-actor stage show that premiered Off-Broadway in 2001.

It has been further reimagined for the screen by Steven Levenson who wrote the book for the Broadway hit Dear Evan Hansen.

Larson died suddenly at age 35 on the morning of the first preview performance of Rent Off Broadway on January 25, 1996.

In addition to Garfield, the cast of the Netflix movie includes Bradley Whitford, Alexandra Shipp, Judith Light and Vanessa Hudgens.

Originally in production at the start of the year, the project was put on hold when the COVID-29 pandemic hit in March.

    Filming resumed in mid-October.

Garfieled is best known for his role as Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man movies.

However, since leaving the superhero franchise, he has gone on to earn critical acclaim for his dramatic performances in the films Hackshaw Ridge and Silence, as well as London’s National Theatre production of Angels In America.
