Is this the scariest movie EVER? Gen Z TikTok users are left ‘traumatized’ by ‘disturbing’ 2011 horror flick ‘Megan is Missing’ as it goes viral on the app – reducing many viewers to TEARS

    • ‘Megan is Missing’ follows a 14-year-old girl who meets up with a guy she met online and is met with a violent ending
    • The film, which was originally released in May 2011, started earning attention on TikTok as Gen Z viewers shared their horrified reactions while watching
    • None revealed the plot, leaving more curious viewers to watch it and respond with equal horror

Gen Z TikTok users are discovering the 2011 psychological horror film ‘Megan is Missing’ — and are saying they’re traumatized by the movie.

The film follows a 14-year-old girl who meets up with a guy she met online — and, in the ultimate meeting-a-stranger-from-the-internet cautionary tale, her story comes to an extreme ending with horrific violence.

But inexplicably, TikTok users have begun watching the movie and sharing their reaction videos on the app, inspiring more and more curious — and ultimately traumatized — viewers.

At the beginning of the film, which first hit headlines after being banned in New Zealand in October 2011 because of its ‘objectionable’ nature, a disclaimer says it is based on a true story, though that’s actually not the case.

The movie follows Megan, played by Rachel Quinn, who meets up with Josh, played by Dean Waite, whom she met online.

She goes missing, and her friend Amy investigates her appearance.

Things don’t end well for Megan, who is raped, tortured, and killed by the end of the movie.

At some point recently, TikTok users began watching the film and filming their own increasingly horrified faces.

Still, none actually share exactly what is so terrible about the actions of the movie, leaving other curious TikTok users inspired to watch it themselves.

‘I cannot finish Megan is Missing. I’m gonna be traumatized for life,’ added yet another, while once proclaimed, ‘I regret watching megan is missing with my friends,,, it’s so disturbing.’

According to Entertainment Weekly, Michael Goi, the writer and director of the film, recorded his own TikTok to respond to new viewers.

‘I got a text from Amber Perkins, the lead actress in my movie, that it’s exploding on TikTok at the moment,’ he said.

‘I didn’t get to give you the customary warnings that I used to give people before they watched Megan Is Missing, which are: do not watch the movie in the middle of the night, do not watch the movie alone, and if you see the words “Photo No. 1” pop up on your screen, you have about four seconds to shut off the movie if you’re already kind of freaking out before you start seeing things that maybe you don’t want to see.’

‘Apologies to those who are already posting about how the movie is already freaked them out. Fair warning to those of you who are still contemplating watching the film,’ he said.
