    • He has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder after allegedly offering $20,000 to make his wife ‘disappear’
    • Authorities last month started recording conversations Renninger had with two people after they became FBI sources
    • Renninger allegedly said he was prepared for the fact that he would be heavily scrutinized by law enforcement ‘once it all goes down’

An Ohio man has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder after offering to pay $20,000 to make his wife ‘disappear’ so he could cash in on her life insurance, federal prosecutors say.

Scott Allen Renninger, 52, was taken into custody at his home in Uniontown, south east of Akron, on Tuesday.

The FBI started investigating Renninger after he allegedly told someone last month that he wanted his wife to ‘disappear’.

Authorities subsequently started recording conversations Renninger had with two people after they became FBI sources.

Scott Allen Renninger, 52, was taken into custody at his home in Uniontown, south east of Akron, on Tuesday following the FBI investigation

During one conversation on November 11, Renninger allegedly discussed with one of the sources the fact that his wife had a life insurance policy.

It was not immediately clear how much his wife’s policy was for.

Prosecutors say he spoke to the source about paying $20,000 for the hit on his wife.

He is allegedly to have told the source: ‘(I) kinda want her to disappear… you know like if they never find her’.

Renninger allegedly told the source that he knew the $20,000 payment couldn’t be made in a lump sum because anything over $10,000 in one transaction could be considered suspicious.

During a separate conversation with the second source, Renninger allegedly said he was prepared for the fact that he would be heavily scrutinized by law enforcement ‘once it all goes down’.

Renninger has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Authorities have not publicly identified his wife.

He is scheduled to appear in the Northern District of Ohio Court in Akron later on Tuesday.
