Anmol Prasad, 35, was first arrested in 2016 on multiple rape and sexual assault charges
A long haul truck driver has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for repeatedly raping and sexually assaulting prostitutes who he picked up while working a multi-state route then terrorized with a knife while demanding sex.
Anmol Prasad, 35, was first arrested in 2016. He has been in custody awaiting sentencing and on Monday was jailed for 15 years and four months.
Prasad raped and assaulted at least five different women in Washington, Oregon and Califoria while working as a trucker between 2015 and 2016.
In almost every case, the victim was a sex worker who he approached and brought into his vehicle before driving away with them and then pulling a knife on them.
In one case, he slashed the woman’s hand and tried to rob her after they had had sex. In another, he held a knife to the neck of a woman while commanding her to perform oral sex on him.
He was caught after witnessed saw him driving away with at least one of the women and reported it to police.
Prasad’s spree began in October 2015 in Oakland.
The victim was a 19-year-old prostitute who was picked up by Prasad. They drove to a bank, where he withdrew $300 to pay her with.
Once they were back in his truck he held a knife to her throat then not only kept the $300 but also took $40 from her. It’s unclear if he raped or sexually attacked her but she suffered a cut on her hand defending herself from him.
Ten days later, another 19-year-old woman told police that he had picked her up at a gas station, driven away with her then threatened her with a knife while demanding that she perform oral sex on him.
Prasad picked up most of the victims at gas stations along his route
Fearing for her life, she complied, she said.
After the attack, he kept her in his vehicle and drove to a different county. Police had been called by someone who saw them and were able to track down the truck.
They arrested him when they arrived but prosecutors declined to take the case forward and he was released.
Six months later, a 20-year-old woman contacted police saying she too had been attacked after posting an ad online advertising herself for sex.
She said he became aggressive as they negotiated what they would to, then began hitting her with a tire iron.
He refused to let her go, locking the doors of his truck, then speeding away.
She was able to open one of them and jumped out of the vehicle while it traveled at 40mph. Only then did police go to his home, interview his wife and arrest him.
He denied the allegations during police interviews, claiming he had never had sex with anyone but his wife, who he married in 2013.
Prasad later took a plea deal in which he admitted to two counts of assault to commit mayhem, rape, sodomy or oral copulation and one count of forced sexual assault.
He was sentenced to 15 years but because he has already spent four years behind bars, only now has to serve eight years before he is eligible for parole.
