West Ham offered chance to sign Real Madrid forward Mariano Diaz on loan

West Ham offered chance to sign Real Madrid forward Mariano Diaz on loan as Zinedine Zidane gives green light to let out-of-favour striker leave

    • West Ham have been offered the chance to sign Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz
    • The 27-year-old forward will be allowed to leave Real on an initial loan
    • He was offered around to clubs in the summer with West Brom showing interest
    • However, Mariano decided against a Baggies switch but could move to London

West Ham have been offered the chance to sign Real Madrid forward Mariano Diaz.

The 27-year-old, who joined from Lyon in 2018 for £21m, is available potentially on an initial loan and was offered around to clubs in the summer with Zinedine Zidane willing to let him go.

West Brom were among those to show an interest but Mariano was unsure on a move to a newly-promoted side. However, a move to London and West Ham could carry more appeal.

Moyes tried to add Josh King from Bournemouth in the last throes of the summer window and is open to bolstering his attack still as he looks to build on a promising season.

Sebastien Haller has failed to make any meaningful impact since completing his big-money move from Frankfurt last year.

It has left Moyes searching for more attacking options and could view Mariano as the man to lead the line for them.

Mariano has only managed 1,000 minutes across his stint in the first team for Los Blancos, where he scored four goals in 19 appearances since rejoining the club in 2018.

While he has struggled to nail down a more permanent role in Zidane’s plans, he remains an undoubted talent as a finisher and could be afforded more game time should he make the switch to the London Stadium.

He has made just one appearance this season.

Mariano originally signed for Real’s C team in 2012 and would make a splash in the lower levels. He made 44 appearances for Real’s Castilla club in the second division scoring an impressive 32 goals, before finally making the step up to the first team in 2016 but only featured eight times scoring once.

A move to French side Lyon followed in 2017 and his impressive goal scoring record of 18 goals in 37 appearances prompted Real to bring him back to the Bernabeu.

However, he has been limited chances and a second move away from the club beckons.

Meanwhile, the Hammers are also eyeing up a move for Philadelphia Union left back Kai Wagner.

Wagner has been one of the MLS’s standout performers and is valued around £3.5million which again fits well within the clubs’ tight budgets.

The east London club face competition from Fulham, however, who are also interested in the German defender.
