David Beckham ‘is interested in a January move for Olivier Giroud’

David Beckham ‘is interested in a January move for Olivier Giroud’ as he considers partnering the out-of-favour Chelsea striker with his former team-mate Gonzalo Higuain at Inter Miami

    • Olivier Giroud has made just one Chelsea start under Frank Lampard this season
    • Didier Deschamps has encouraged Giroud to seek a move ahead of Euro 2020
    • Inter Miami are plotting a move for Giroud after struggling in their debut season
    • David Beckham’s MLS side believe he would partner well with Gonzalo Higuain

David Beckham‘s MLS side Inter Miami are considering a January move for Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud.

The Frenchman has made just one start under Frank Lampard this season and requires more regular pitch time to make Didier Deschamps’ Euro 2020 squad.

Deschamps has urged the country’s second-highest goalscorer to seek a January transfer, while Inter Miami are desperate to add quality to their ranks after struggling in their debut season.

Inter believe Giroud could create a formidable partnership with his former Chelsea team-mate, Gonzalo Higuain – according to The Mirror.

Higuain signed for Inter on September 18 in a lucrative deal that has seen him become the league’s highest-paid player.

The Argentine has previously claimed that his switch to Inter Miami has helped him ‘get his love for the game back’ after an illustrative career at Real Madrid, Lazio, Chelsea and Juventus.

Should Giroud opt for a move to America, he will be hoping for the same result.

Giroud has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea with Lampard preferring to use £53million summer signing Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham over him.

Subsequently, Giroud has only featured six times in all competitions this season.

Giroud’s agent Michael Manuello has branded Chelsea’s treatment of the striker as ‘unfair’ and said that he will consider his options in the January transfer window if his situation remains the same.

He said: ‘Effectively, since the start of September, things have changed, but what has not changed is his capacity to play matches for France, contrary to what was said by certain others.

‘There have been €150million (£132m) worth of players bought.

‘But at the same time you’d be blind not to see that Frank Lampard has decided to put Tammy Abraham ahead of him.

‘It is not frankly fair when you look at what Olivier did at the end of the season. But he (Lampard) has the right; it is his choice.

‘So effectively if things continue like this, in December we will find ourselves where we were in December 2019.

‘Things have happened in the last five months. We cannot just look at the last two months and be forgetful about the three years that came before it.

‘But we have to be honest, and if this continues, we will have to, first and foremost for him, experience other emotions.’
