Snappy snaps! Dexter the dog bares his teeth and shows just how much he hates selfies

  • Dexter protests by pulling angry faces as Dave Tooke, 43, tries to take a selfie
  • The Kelpie is usually a friendly family dog, however he is not a fan of cameras
  • Footage of dog’s amusing reaction was taken at home in Chichester last week

A dog who hates taking selfies is captured growling and baring his teeth at the camera as his owner tries to take a picture.

Dexter can be seen making his opinion on selfies very clear as owner Dave Tooke, 43, tries to snap a selfie with his phone at their home in Chichester in the footage shot on Thursday, November 24.

The kelpie, who was rescued by the family seven years ago, is usually a very friendly family pet, but when it comes to having his photo taken Dexter has very strong feelings.

As the camera comes closer to Dexter’s face he puts on a show of aggression towards the phone, eventually taking a lunge at the device before running off.

Despite his dislike for the limelight Dexter has a special affinity with Dave’s daughter Rheya, eight, who shares a heart condition with the pooch.

Dave, a decorator, said: ‘Dexter is a Kelpie who we rescued, he shares a heart condition with my daughter who adores him.

‘We got him for her when she was little about seven years ago and yes he very much dislikes selfies.’

As Dexter growls with all his might at the camera Dave jokes: ‘Such a happy doggy, are you having fun?’

Rheya can be heard consoling the canine asking him: ‘You alright my little sugar?’

Similarly to Dexter, Rheya was born with a hole in her heart which meant blood had leaked into her lungs from a malformed artery.

At ten days old Rheya underwent pioneering surgery to save her life, when her heart was only the size of a grape.

Cardiologist Dr Joseph Vettukattil, of Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust in Hampshire, performed the surgery which sealed the leaky artery and inserted a tube to help blood flow until Rheya had grown strong enough for another operation.

Four months later she underwent a nine hour operation to permanently resolve the malformation.

Parents Claire and Dave decided to rescue Dexter, who also suffered from a heart defect, as a companion for Rheya who ‘adores’ the dog.
