‘Women are clearly being overlooked here’: Teyana Taylor rips Recording Academy after all Grammy nominees for Best R&B Album are male
Teyana Taylor took to Twitter after Grammy nominations were announced on Tuesday, questioning why all five nominees in the the R&B Album category were male.
‘Y’all was better off just saying best MALE R&B ALBUM cause all I see is dick in this category,’ said the 29-year-old, who released The Album this past June.
The nominees in the category were Giveon (for his album Take Time), Ant Clemons (Happy 2 Be Here), Luke James (To Feel Love/D), John Legend (Bigger Love), and Gregory Porter (All Rise).

The singer-songwriter, reacting to a story written about her tweets, clarified that she was not upset with the men up for the prize, but rather the Recording Academy for snubbing all female artists with their nominations in the category.
‘I’m not blasting the male nominees,’ she said. ‘I’m blasting the @RecordingAcad for failing ALL the women that has been putting in work. Women are clearly being overlooked here. WOMEN PLAYS A BIG PART IN CARRYING R&B.’
The Lose Each Other artist responded to another user pointing out that another category was female-dominated.
She said, ‘My point is MY POINT. I said what da f*** I said. It shoulda been some WAP’s in tha R&B category. Instead it was filled with a bunch of [males], Now stay outta black women business.’

The lack of female nominees marks the first time such has happened since the R&B award was first given out in 1995, Complex said.
The Grammys are slated to be held January 31.
