A Texas mom died on her way home from hospital this week after giving birth to her premature baby, when her friend allegedly tried to beat an Amtrak passenger train and drove her car onto railway tracks.

Rhonda Clay died Wednesday when the BMW she was a passenger in plowed into an oncoming train in the Harris County area.

Clay had just given birth to her baby daughter by caesarean section, with her devastated family now left to raise the little girl without her mother.

The tragedy unfolded around 5 p.m. when Green was driving her green BMW X3 northbound on Sheldon Road in northeast Harris County.

Clay’s devastated family told ABC13 Green was driving her home from the hospital after her daughter’s birth.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said Green manoeuvred the vehicle into the southbound lane to get past two other cars that had come to a stop in front of the railroad tracks.

The railway crossing arms were down to warn drivers of an oncoming train but Green ignored the warnings to stop, authorities said.

Clay’s family told ABC13 they were feeling ‘numb’ over her death and that they will now raise Clay’s baby daughter together.

Her brother James choked back tears as he told how he got the call to tell him his sister had died.

‘I just want to tell my sister that I love her. She means the world to me,’ he said.

‘That’s my best friend. We grew up together.’

Clay’s father insisted the family did not blame Green for his daughter’s death and were praying for her recovery.

‘I’m not upset with Brittinie. I know she would not do anything to hurt Rhonda,’ he told ABC 13.

‘My prayers are with her, so she can make it and everything will be ok.’

Clay’s other brother Caleb also paid tribute to his sister calling her his ‘biggest supporter’ as their mom Casandra vowed that her ‘faith will take me through this’.
