Throughout this year thousands of social media users have been left impressed with several kitchen hacks that aim to make life easier – one trick demonstrated the ‘correct’ way to strain pasta
1. Strain pasta the right way
Earlier this year in July, a home cook wowed the internet with a ‘mind blowing’ video of himself using a sifter in a very unusual way to strain his pasta.
The man, believed to be from the UK, shared a now-viral TikTok video demonstrating the ‘wrong’ and ‘correct’ methods of draining the cooking water in the sink.
Instead of transferring the penne from a pan to a colander, the man covers the pot with the sifter, inverted-side down, and then pours out all the boiling water through the sieve while holding the strainer and pot together over the sink.
The result shows the drained pasta remaining inside the hot pot while the empty sifter is put aside after emptying out the water.
‘How you’ve probably been doing it all your life,’ the man said while showing the ‘wrong’ method of pouring cooked pasta directly into the sifter like most people do.

2. Create an omelette sandwich
Another craze that was spotted on TikTok is an omelette hack that involves adding the bread into the egg.
One viral video posted by an Australian man demonstrates how to make the delicious breakfast meal by first combining three eggs together then pouring the mixture into a hot pan.
He then added in two pieces of buttered bread and flipped the whole omelette when the egg was cooked.
Tasty cheese and bacon was then placed on top of each slice of bread before the sandwich was flipped onto itself.
The ‘genius’ way to make the omelette sandwich ensures all the bread is doused in delicious egg and filled with an oozy filling.

3. Juice a lemon without losing seeds
Another quick and easy hack is how you can juice a lemon without the seeds popping out.
Rather than slicing the lemon into wedges, poke a hole halfway into the citrus using a toothpick or skewer to create an opening.
The hole will allow the juice to be squeezed out of the lemon while the unwanted seeds remain inside.

4. Use dental floss for cutting cake
As cutting a cake in equal proportions is often challenging, TikTok users have devised a unique way to solve this dilemma by using dental floss.
The floss glides through dessert cakes easily and is a suitable option if a knife is inaccessible.
Each hack is worth trying to test the practicality and determine whether the substitute method is useful in everyday situations.
