The incident came to light after the authorities shared the footage online yesterday to warn the public about road safety.

Mr Zhang was carrying out repairs for the sewer outside a parking lot in Xinjiang’s Aksu city on November 25.

While working underground, he had left the manhole uncovered, with no barriers or signs around to inform motorists about the ongoing road maintenance.

In the CCTV footage, two cars are seen approaching the indoor parking lot as the first motorist failed to notice the open manhole.

The driver proceeded to move forward while Mr Zhang suddenly stuck his head out as he was climbing onto the road.

The vehicle then ran over the worker who appeared to have dodged death by quickly ducking down.

The second motorist immediately swerved to the side and stopped after witnessing the incident.

Mr Zhang sustained some injuries but has recovered and left the hospital, according to the police.
