A Kentucky mayor has been arrested for driving under the influence after she fell asleep in a drive-thru and crashed into a utility pole, authorities said.
Shively mayor Beverly Chester-Burton was found by Louisville police officers on Tuesday night standing next to her smashed silver Cadillac and the utility pole.
The 59-year-old had allegedly tried to leave the White Castle parking lot at around 11pm before losing control of her car.

Witnesses said she had fallen asleep at the wheel in the line for the fast food outlet.
They even had to knock on her window to wake her up, a police report said, according to the Louisville Courier Journal.
The citation said: ‘At some point she struck the rear of a truck which was pushed into the rear of another vehicle. She then exited the parking lot striking the pole.’
She allegedly told police the accelerator got stuck as she tried to avoid hitting other vehicles, and smashed into the pole.
Police said Chester-Burton, the city’s first ever black mayor, reeked of alcohol and failed to walk in a straight line when asked to do so.

She initially told officers she had drunk two apple martinis with dinner at 5pm, but then changed her story, saying she had drinks at 9pm, according to the report.
The mayor, who was elected in 2018, was taken to the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections and released on Wednesday.
She is due to be arraigned on Friday.
