Courteney Cox and David Arquette’s Scream 5 releases first teaser… amid reports Selena Gomez will join cast

It was announced on Friday that the release date for Paramount Pictures’ Scream 5 has been delayed to January 14, 2022.

Additionally, the fifth installment of the long-running Scream franchise, which is set to star David Arquette and Courteney Cox, released its first teaser of the upcoming film.

In the brief clip, fans get a glimpse of the iconic ‘Ghostface’ mask, which is a disguise adopted by several different serial killers in the past four films.

Spooky: It was announced on Friday that the release date for Paramount Pictures’ Scream 5 has been delayed to January 14, 2022

‘On January 14, 2022… We’re going to hear you SCREAM,’ the official Scream account tweeted, garnering more than one million views and 50,000 likes in less than a day.

Earlier this month, the upcoming flick made headlines when all four confirmed cast members – including Cox, Arquette, Melissa Barrera, and Jenna Ortega– started following Selena Gomez.

Amid speculation that the 28-year-old singer landed a role in the movie, the Friends veteran warmly commented under one of Gomez’s recent Instagram posts: ‘Can’t wait to meet you.’

'We met on Scream 1, hated each other on Scream 2, got married on Scream 3 and divorced on Scream 4,' Cox said of their longtime romance, which initially ran from 1996-2011

With exes Arquette and Cox reuniting for the popular horror franchise, fans have wondered where their relationship stands since the pair’s last slasher film in 2011.

‘We met on Scream 1, hated each other on Scream 2, got married on Scream 3and divorced on Scream 4,’ Cox said in the actor’s documentary, You Cannot Kill David Arquette, of their longtime romance, which initially ran from 1996-2011.

‘We’re co-parents to our daughter who’s 16 so we have a really great relationship,’ Arquette told Yahoo Entertainment of his ex-wife and teenage daughter. ‘We’re friends, and we’ve communicated a lot because of Coco.’

Friendly: Arquette also told The Guardian there will be no tension working with Cox: 'No, it's been 10 years now, so there's been a lot of healing'

Just last month, Cox revealed she was returning to the Scream franchise to reprise her character Gale Weathers.

The 56-year-old Cougar Town star shared the news on social media. ‘I can’t wait to see this face again,’ the actress wrote over a clip of a white mask.

The news came two months after Arquette announced he would also be a part of the highly anticipated sequel.

Two weeks ago, the 48-year-old actor told Entertainment Tonight that he and Cox are looking forward to returning to the set, where they met while first co-starring together in the original Scream 24 years ago.

‘We always love working together,’ admitted David. ‘She’s an incredible actress, so it’ll be fun to bring these characters back to life and see where they’re at.’

Arquette also told The Guardian there will be no tension: ‘No, it’s been 10 years now, so there’s been a lot of healing.’

In May, Arquette confirmed that he was going to return as Sheriff Dewey Riley for the reboot.

'I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my Scream family, old and new,' Arquette said. 'Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honoring Wes Craven's legacy'

Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing the reboot.

‘I’m excited to reteam with David and work with Jamie, Guy and Radio Silence on the next ‘Scream,’ Williamson told Variety.

‘Their take on the movie is both original, inventive and honors Wes’ legacy in a wonderful way. Ready Or Not was my favorite horror film of last year and I can’t wait to see what their amazing talents bring to the “Scream” universe. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.’
