Nicole Kidman’s sister Antonia breaks silence on divorce from late husband Angus Hawley

Antonia Kidman speaks about her divorce from late ex-husband Angus Hawley in a rare interview – and reveals how her famous family supported her during the separation

Antonia Kidman has opened up about her divorce from her late ex-husband Angus Hawley in a rare personal interview.

The 50-year-old sister of Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman told Studio 10 on Thursday she tried to put her children first during her separation and relied on her famous family for support.

The former couple were married for 11 years but split in 2007. Eight years later, in April 2015, Angus died in New York from a suspected heart attack at the age of 46.

‘What do you think about, I think it’s about 50 per cent of marriages end in divorce, and a lot of those marriages involve children,’ said Studio 10 host Sarah Harris.

‘You always wonder what kind of effect that has on the children. What’s been your experience in terms of the well-being of the kids whose parents are going through this kind of thing?’ she asked Antonia, who is now practising family law.

‘Well I guess, again, it comes down to the mental health of a parent, especially if you’ve got dependents, you’ve got to take care of yourself, or that was my experience,’ Antonia said.

‘I had a lot of family support too, so that assisted.’

She went on to say that the children should always be a priority in a split.

‘But then again, it’s a matter of trying to help people try and navigate a really difficult time and keeping those little people at the forefront of the process and their interests as a priority,’ Antonia said.

Antonia and Angus welcomed four children together, Lucia, 22, Hamish, 19, James, 17, and Sybella, 13.

Angus, who was the great-grandson of Grace Bros founder Albert Grace, was married to Prue Fisher for three years before he died in 2015.

Antonia married Singaporean-based businessman Craig Marran in April 2010 and went on to have two children with him, sons Nicholas, nine, and Alexander, seven.
